Universal Love RIP Neale

What a special person he was. The big freeze stuff is truly amazing. Loved his coaching at the Dees and hoped he would coach us after Sheeds left. One of my first Essendon memories is when they came back from 4+ goals in time on at Princess Park. For those who haven’t seen it watch the whole 20 minutes or just tune in from the 16m mark to see him kick the last 2 goals

Neale’s breakout year, which sadly ended in the first of his many knee ops, coincided with the first year I followed the footy with a fixated passion. I was just 7 at the time. While Simon Madden was my favourite, Neale was not far behind. I remember religiously checking the Sun newspaper on a Monday for their player of the year voting (where each player got a score out of ten each round). Neale either won it or came close to winning it but I remember hoping he’d rate well each week, which he usually did. He was on a trajectory to be a player in the mould of Hird I reckon. Would’ve been captain of those back-to-back teams in the 80s, and probably would’ve helped us sneak another one along the way.

RIP legend.

Never had the pleasure of watching him suit up in the red and the black, although by all accounts he was an absolute superstar of the game.

What I remember him for is his efforts with MND. It's a disease I knew very little about before Neale had the misfortune of getting it. Not only did he educate me and countless others, but he inspired me more than words can express. I've never seen a more resilient and determined individual.

Today, the world lost an absolute legend. RIP and condolences to all his loved ones.

was a different game then, great memories.

How good is it watching footy without the bloody umpires yelling STAND, STAND, STAND!. the worst rule in the game
