RIP Phil Walsh

Like everyone else, I was stunned to hear this news this morning. What a tragedy for all concerned. Just goes to show that these footy people are just normal people with normal people issues going on in their lives. Condolences to all Phil's family and friends, the AFC and all those in footy who knew him in any way. Very sad indeed.

I'm still stunned by the news even after hours finding out what had transpired in the early hours of the morning with Phil and his family. It's just horrific that a whole family has been torn apart and a man has tragically passed away now.

I checked out his playing stats for the Pies in 1983 on AFL Tables and he seemed like an impressive player for us that year and it was really detrimental to the club that he left at the end of 1983 and joined the Tigers during the Richmond-Collingwood poaching wars in those years.

Very sad news! RIP Phil Walsh and my thoughts go out to his family, friends and the Adelaide Football Club!

I can't believe we are still going a head with tonight to be honest.

Well, isn't it nice that we live in a democracy and people can decide for themselves whether or not to go to the game.

Personally I'll be going to the game tonight decked out in my Collingwood colours to support the team I love and pay my respects with a minute's silence before the game (assuming that will be happening) to an ex-Collingwood player and inspiring coach, whose life was cut short by domestic violence.

True although Crows and Cats fans had that democracy decided for them.

Just terrible news, my thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and the Adelaide Crows. Not sure if tonight's game should go ahead tbh. But I would expect that at least a minute of silence be offered to Phil as a sign of respect.

Life is precious, and we would all do well to remember that.

Rest in peace, Phil Walsh. Vale.

RIP Walshy...too young...so sad.

I had Peter Rohde as a maths/PE teacher - might have been him.
I had Paul Callery...History teacher.

I heard the news on the radio yesterday morning. My reaction over the 3 or 4 seconds I was hearing it ...

Radio: "We've got breaking news ... The coach of the Adelaide football club has died ..."

76 (thinking): "... whadda they mean coach of the Adelaide football club? Senior coaches don't die, it'll be an old assistant or a soccer club or junior club of something, typical sensationalist media  ..."

Radio: "... Phil Walsh was killed ..."

76 (thinking) "... Oh **** he's been in a car accident  ..."

Radio: "... In a domestic dispute allegedly involving his son"

76 (thinking) "... Oh ****, the **** just got real, that's friggen tragic :(:(:(:cry::cry::cry:"

Good work popin.

For those not at the game, both the pre and after game tributes were very emotional, with the crowd being quiet and respectful. The pre-game one minute silence was preceded by a video tribute to Phil Walsh, obviously organised by the AFL.

The post-game tribute, as we now know, was nothing to do with the AFL but organised by the respective coaches and team captains. Like many Pies fans, I stayed to the final siren. This was part in hope of a last minute win, but also to honour what had been an amazing game. I wanted to clap our boys down the race. But they stayed on the field in a tight group (circle), as did the Hawks. Then the circles broke up, and the two groups merged to formed the big circle in the centre square, as shown in all the images. The crowd who remained (40 or 50k?) stood and clapped both teams when that circle broke up.

But it wasnt yet over. The Hawks then left the field, and Bucks took our boys aside and addressed them again, before leading them off with Pendles. It was again very emotional, and many Pies fans gathered near the race, finally able to clap them off. No cheering or yelling, just quiet and respectful.
