He put Australia on the map, as far as motor racing is concerned, and every driver who followed in his footsteps owes him a debt of gratitude. A sad loss of a great Australian.

Rest in peace, Sir Jack. Still the only man to build his world championship winning Formula One car. Triple world champion and one of the all-time greats of motor sport. You can have your V8 tintops, but for me, Formula One is the pinnacle and he scaled it like none other.

I remember a few years ago being in the exhibitors' paddock at the Australian Grand Prix and Brabham was demonstrating the car which he raced to win one of his championships. He started it up, edged it forward a few centimetres then it stalled. He climbed out cursing and muttering to himself in front of 100 people. Was quite amusing to me at the time.

Hard pressed to think of a finer Australian. A legend on the track, a gentlemen off the track. One of our true greats, and deserved more recognition at home than he received.

The '66 Repco Brabham is one of the most beautiful F1 cars in history. An amazing piece of Australian ingenuity.

RIP Sir Jack.

One of the absolute great icons of F1 worldwide not just for Australia. Would've won even more world titles if they had banned his first Brabham car in the early 60s because it was so much better than the rest of the field. Will be interesting to see what they do to remember him this weekend in Monaco.

In an era when most of his competition either suffered serious injury or lost their lives Sir Jack never had a racing injury.

Our countrys finest driver and one of its finest men. Always had time for people, met him at a couple GPs and Classic Adelaide rallys and you always felt like he could talk to you for hours, not that he felt obliged to.

One of only 9 men to lift the WDC on 3 or more occasions and the only one to do so in a car that he helped design and that bears his name.

RIP Sir Jack- the legacy will live on.

On Sunrise this morning they were referring to him as 'John Brabham' in their newsfeed. That ABC doco from a couple of years ago was right. Most Australians just don't give a damn who we lost yesterday...

Shakes head - I'm sure it's his real name but who ever called him John? There's a challenge for Vettel, Alonso, Hamilton - build your own car and win a championship in it.

A trailblazer.
I could not imagine anyone matching Brabhams record of winning the WDC in his own car.

Does anyone know much about Matthew or Sam Brabham?
Are either any chance of continuing the F1 legacy? My limited knowledge is that Matthew is more an Indy Driver than F1.
