how good has Riv been since he came back from injury! knows his limits, if he can't mark he spoils excellently, was.brilliant under pressure.

Was brilliant tonight, just a ballsy defender, blended well with Frawley. Was named the rising star years ago and who knows what a 'star' is, he's just a solid solid defender.

He is absolutely fearless in defence. One spoil in particular was particularly gutsy, punching a ball through for a point running back with the flight of the ball. He's very strong overhead, a good kick and pretty composed.

All of a sudden things are looking a bit more positive for the dee's!!

Sorry to intrude here but I just wanted to ask you guys why it is that Rivers never really gets the recognition from an outside perspective? He has been around for 8/9 seasons and he's obviously had his injury troubles but when is he ever beaten? He can play on players of all sizes and he strikes me as one of the most courageous players going around in the game, a guy who would die for the club

When he punched it clean past the members 50 and the guy STAYED DOWN

Best game he has ever played foor the club, easily. Im eating my humble pie, was brilliant.

Joel MacDonald best game for the club also, been very good since coming back in, some certain posters on this board have bagged him all year, jump in line with me, theirs enough humble pie for all. :thumbsu:

No idea. He's been amazing for years in a team constantly smashed through the middle of the ground. The older players tend to cop shit from fans in rebuilding teams whether it's warranted or not.

Joel Macdonald and Frawley (even Morton) were very good, but Rivers is the glue. Considering we are missing other options like Garland, Grimes, Tapscott, Bail, Bartram and he was surrounded by kids in Strauss, Bennell and Nicholson it was a fantastic effort.

Frawley was fumbly all night and still had a heap of it and was decent defensively. Shows his talent level that he can be well below his best and still help out. I bet he loves playing with someone who can help off his man all night as well as rivers. As well as MacDonald was tonight I still cant wait to get Garland back in for him. :thumbsu:

After his shocker against Sydney he has 100% turned it around, he's back to the Rivers of old.

I would say he'd be in our top 5 players this year.

The humble pie tastes good after a win like that.

I thought he was BOG.

Did you guys know he is also our sole vice captain?

Great game. Having a great season.

And yeah I'm sure you were all awear of his leadership status but it's not mentioned often. Or enough.

Him and Joel Mac have stood up well.

Best game in a long time. I thought he was clear BOG on Friday night. Just a monster in defence, didn't lose a single contest and made some absolutely crucial 1%'s.

To the person who asked why he never gets outside recognition; he had a bad run with injuries in 2007 and 2008 (played just 9/44 matches). This also coincided with our awful drop to the bottom of the ladder, so nobody was playing well really, and his stocks sort of plummetted. Since 2009, he has been solid without being outstanding, but Friday was a sublime performance from him.
