My Boss said he got 9 months, but only gets weekend detention, so he is out during the week, one rule for the rich & one for the poor.

OK. Still running, is it?
It's not really. I was just being a cheeky little rascal.

Rivkin = Rene Rivkin of The Rivkin report fame. Fat dude with a beard on late night infomercials. You know, the inside trading dude.

I'm sure ANYONE in the same situation would do the same.
i.e if you knew a horse trainer who said a horse was 'set', you'd whack a few on it.
i.e if you know someone in a football dept who tells you that a top player is out on game day, you'd have a punt on it.

It's just that he's a public figure.

Tyler, I think you misunderstood me, I wasn't referring to what he got sentenced for, it was the fact he got 9 months, but only has to serve weekends, if it was your average Joe, do you think they would be that lenient.

Average Joes don't get done for insider trading on such a scale as he did.

mantis, i dont think it is lenient at all. 9 months is about the same as what someone with a manslaughter charge gets who was speeding a truck through a school zone, but i spose he doesnt get the week free, and nor should he.

Rivkin is on Enough Rope with Andrew Denton again next Monday. No doubt he'll blame Tall Poppy Syndrome for his predicament rather than admit he broke the law.

The week free is the big difference. He should've got 70 days in a row,not spread out over 9 months.

Exactly, it ****es me off that people look on white collare crime as harmless, OK they don't physically harm their victims, but the financial & psychological damage is just as bad.

I am sick of the Bonds, Skase, HIH, One Tels of this world committing crimes, which leave their victims devastated & they walk away with their money & lives intact.

These people are criminals, about time they got the punishment they deserve.

yes, Rivkin broke the law, but in the end it was pretty insignificant. They said he made 335 dollars out of the deal. I dont know the full details but it sounded quite petty.

The fact the prosocution would've cost the taxpayer a ****load makes it a piric (sp?) victory.

But can someone explain how the likes of Jody Rich and co. are free to walk around with multi million dollar kick backs after costing a lot fo people a lot of money, but Rivkin is "jailed" for a seemingly not all that significant case of insider trading.

actually this particular thing could cost Rivkin big time as his license could be revoked as a share trader or whatever it is he does.

Yeah... that's what I said to my dad when he started ranting about it. It's the equivalent of stealing a couple of handbags really... the loss of 35 weekends is quite a decent punishment.

I'm not saying that he deserved less than what he got, only that it's a fair sentence.
