Maybe because we were all bought up with openers from Lawry, then through to the likes of Taylor, Marsh, Boon, Langer, etc, we have a tendency to dismiss players as just being mindless thrashers when they start to score freely at the top of the order and make judgements about their ticker etc.

The reality is these sorts of players can be a liability, we know that. Warner, Sehwag - they have been made look stupid many times because of their approach. But gee they can be valuable too and there is a lot to admire about players who can manage to take on the toughest role in Test cricket and make it so uncomplicated.

Good post. Everyone loves these guys when they come off but gets the pitchforks out when they fail.

Again, the ICC won't go for it, and no umpire is going to suspend Virat Kohli, Joe Root or whoever the fu** is captaining South Africa!

It. Won't. Happen. It's why Dusty, Ablett, Danger, Fyfe don't get suspended for suspendable acts.

It is a problem for us the fans, and no-one else.

Whether 87 overs or 90 overs are bowled in a day is not THAT big of a problem in the scheme of things really.

People are just obsessed with the idea of ‘getting what they paid for’ but don’t see the bigger picture - I.e the poor quality / competitiveness of a lot of test matches because of increasingly insurmountable home advantage due crammed schedules, insufficient preparation, shit pitches etc.

Much easier to wings about 3 less overs being bowled in half an hour more than discuss these much more serious issues.

Minefields..

Finds out the average cricketer and makes the good batsmen pay in any lapse in concentration.

Keep the bowlers in it most of the time which always make it interesting. The bowling still needs to be good
