Hi guys

I was just wondering if anyone knows the result of the SANFL tribunal in relation to Shirleys horrible tackle on the weekend?

Can't seem to find the result anywhere.

Is his career at a crossroads as he seems out of favour as well?

Highly unlikely to play again for the AFC one way or the other.

Little more than conjecture. Given injury and the sliding form of most of our young smalls, I'm certain he'll be seen again this season.

We'll let you know when the tribunal results are in, Murphinator.

Yep

A two-game SANFL suspension has taken Robert Shirley off Adelaide’s list of selection options.

Shirley was last night found guilty of a rough conduct charge from Saturday’s game between the Eagles and West Adelaide. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Adelaide hopes key defender Nathan Bock will this week prove his recovery from a slight hamstring strain which has kept him out of Adelaide’s past two games. He trained with the group on Monday afternoon.

Thanks guys. The footage of that tackle made it seem a lot worse than the punishment he was given. Could he have been given a much lengthier ban if Fisher had injuries worse than just concussion?

Does that mean he's out of AFL selection for 3 weeks given the SANFL have a state game this week? As in, does this weeks virtual bye rule him out of AFL selection for another week?

I don't think he'll be be able to play for us for 3 weeks.
Not that my local footy league is anything like the AFL - but someone came across from another league at the start of this year, but in the last round last year he was suspended for 3 games, and he had to wait until that club had played 3 games before he was allowed to play for his new club, even though his new club had played 5 games before he was allowed play for them, so if that happens in local leagues, pretty sure it would be the same in the big league.

You are correct he has to miss two SANFL games before he can play for us again.

WWTFC to appeal
-------------

As you would no doubt be aware, Robert Shirley was last night found guilty of rough conduct and suspended by the SANFL Tribunal for a 2 match period.

I write to advise that the WWTFC will be appealing this decision based on the fact that we believe "that the decision of the tribunal was so unreasonable that no tribunal acting reasonably could have come to that decision having regard to the evidence before it"

The WWTFC awaits confirmation from the SANFL as to when the appeal will be heard.

With respect to the SANFL, and the appeal process, the WWTFC believes it inappropriate to make any further comment until the appeal has been heard.

Thanks

Chris Davies

Well unless you know something I don't, we're all speculating here. I think that if he was part of the plans for 2009 and beyond, he would have a) been playing at the start of the season and/or b) been given more than one game to prove his worth when he did get a call up.

Barring a run of injuries, I find it hard to see how he would be above Cook, Jacky, Armstrong or even Brodie Martin in the pecking order. But yes, it's just conjecture.

Im Glad - I was worried about a possible Shirley v Judd match up as Judd is back to full fitness, confidence and form

The crows need to keep rotating players on Judd - Dogga, Symes, VB

Shirls could possibly be out of football for 4 weeks with the State Game and then the Eagles bye after his suspension, if he doesn't get picked for the Crows.

I normally don't believe in conspiracy theories involving the Crows/SANFL ect, but I wonder if the AFC had something to do with this appeal. The SANFL tribunal is ridiculously weak and there’s probably a fair chance they change their mind.

Apparently a mysterious brown paper bag was spotted at West Lakes today? You could be on to something there Drummond...

I have also just read that Ben Fisher has undergone MRI and CAT scans? Still numb and tingly in the neck area yet the Eagles and/or the Crows are an absolute disgrace for appealing this. The kid is lucky not to be in a chair, Shirley should hang his head in shame and retire from football.

WWT are right. There is no way the tribunal could have come to that conclusion. They've hedged their bets.

If Shirley is guilty of a spear tackle then it needs to be a 4+ week suspension. Probably the most disgraceful act in the game.

If he is not guilty, then it needs to be 0 weeks.

There is no way they could possibly have come up with a 2 match suspension if they were using any sort of logic or common sense.

From reading the articles on afc.com.au I'm inclined to think that the Crows were going to select Shirley this week. I wouldn't be surprised if they had something to do with the appeal either.

With Bock still out for this week, the Crows must be feeling slightly limited in terms of personnel to bring into the squad for this week.

The SANFL tribunal is a joke anyway, you have to almost murder someone to get any games. I agree that it should have been more and I hope the tribunal extends the ban (which would be quite comical).

If they somehow let him off then it is clear that the AFC have interfered which would be a ****ing disgrace and if Shirley plays this week that dirty prick will be getting no support from me.
