Roast Robert Walls

I thought Walls' column today was his fairest and most accurate for ... forever, actually, especially after we beat the Blues with a faulty carburetor. His moderation tells me he thinks we're a red hot go for the flag.

I always back the Cats, but I wouldn't be shocked if we lost tonight. We've got a strong team, but I'm worried about injuries. It's at the inferior G, Sydney has had a soft lead in, and we don't have a ruck division.

Please, Buddha, don't let Christensen get a head knock. Need not say anything about captain courageous.

As Daz says, GO CATS!!!!!!

Because he got a footy tip wrong? Steady on.
I think in all fairness, this is not the first time Wallsy has put his foot in his mouth via article or spoken word. And I would agree that it might be time for him to retire mainly because he appears to be rather insightless to the modern game - or he is unable to articulate any insight to it in his work.

But I don't think it's particularly fair. I'd rather someone had an opinion and presented their case reasonably, rather than sitting on the fence, just so they can't be derided for getting something wrong. He ended up getting a prediction wrong...big deal. I think every point he made about Geelong's Round 1-3 form in the article was more than fair.

There was absolutely nothing even remotely harsh towards our club in what Walls wrote. I wonder if these people who are accusing Walls of having some sort of hatred of Geelong would have got their noses out of joint if someone like Rohan Connolly or Mark Stevens had written the article. Personally, I suspect they wouldn't have cared in the slightest and are apparently waiting for someone like Walls, Lane, Brereton, King or any other commentator that they don't like to write something about Geelong, just so they can get outraged by it.

He wasn't scathing, no - but the issue was that he chose to trot out the well-worn path of dismissing Geelong as having the ability to run with the oddly no-frills-yet-media-credible Swans. It's been done by a number of writers now, and he did it after three wins on the trot. He could at least have had the restraint to wait until AFTER watching Geelong lose a game to tell the world why he thinks Geelong won't make the grade, instead of basing his opinion on hypotheticals. I wasn't particularly upset when I read the article, but I did wonder why he chose to write it after Geelong knocked off his mob.

Just to clarify my initial point. He is basing his conclusion on form. At the moment we can only judge the swans on 1 qtr against a middle of the road team (ignore first two rounds which is like winning in a country maiden). Our form, although patchy reads much better. From a "form" point of view GFC by 5 goals.

And this was my main issue with his comments - he really didn't analyze either side in enough depth and instead relied on previous beliefs and predjudices. I don't post very much but I am not often wrong!

and Duncan more experienced, Christianson, Motlop, T Hunt etc etc - FFS, you could look at the start of 2011 and see who was missing from 2007 and tear up. How about half full rather than half empty?
After a weekend of being more than half full and re-reading this, you are right. Bookmark it.

I am very confident this year, just will be difficult without the aforementioned chaps. I love the young blokes - hmmm - but I am happy to be a bit of a sleeper at the moment.
