Collingwood held its 2006 Annual General Meeting on Thursday evening, and highlights of the event included the announcement of two new Life Members and a record operating profit.

From all reports Williams seemed genuinely touched. It's good to hear an ex-Magpie - adored by many passionate Collingwood supporters - made his journey home. Congratulations Willo and Big Anthony.

Did anyone on this forum go and how was the mood?

I went.

Good ovation for Williams which was good to see.

The mood overall I would best describe as sedate. We are an apathetic bunch. Generally not at all demanding. It is difficult when you a president who has such a high profile, is so adept in the media and has actually done so much for the club off the field. Few people will attack the real issues which relate to pure on field results.

Question time is where you can get a feel for the mood. There were a couple of questions/complaints about the food at the Copeland. There were 2 good questions. 1 about the training venue which the answer, as I understood it, amounted to we are trying to end up with the athletics track. That would be a good result. If it doesn't come through though we are looking at a pretty poor result. The other was a bloke after my own heart who asked why there hadn't been a lot more questioning of the deficiencies that saw us embarrassed in September. Unfortunately the bloke was treated with contempt by the president and the coach. MM even had a crack about a seat in the coach's box being raffled. To sum up the content of the answer, we all felt it, we've addressed it and acted accordingly but don’t forget we went from 14th to play finals. People will have different views on the accuracy of that. You probably know mine. I spoke to the bloke afterwards as it happens (never met him before) and he wasn't happy. Said it was all about back slapping which is spot on.

Scary thing to be happening if that's the case.
I will never forget in 97, I went to the St. Kilda dinner after the GF (my dad's St. Kilda), and I was amazed at how excited everybody was. I turned to my parents, and said two things: "If they're this excited about making the GF, what if they'd won??" and "They will not win a flag for at least five years considering they're so happy to come second"....

I'm disapointed that all the internet warriors who made noise about asking questions didn't ask those questions.

I can see why Eddie and MM would dismiss the talk of the "deficiencies on September" talk since it was just the one game, if the question was about the on-field performance as a whole it wouldn't and couldn't of been dismissed as such.

Congratulations to Andrew Williams.

Ala. Geelong. They live and breathe on Grand Final defeats. They treat their players like royalty when times are uneasy, just consult John Barnes, who was a victim of the "90s".

In a nutshell - mediocrity is a curse they haven't buried as yet, victims of their own affection.

This is what people don't get, clubs are always going to spin, spin, spin and say they almost done it. If Collingwood accepts mediocrity, then St.Kilda and Geelong accept ******** sandwiches.

Listen, unless you have firstly shelled out for a social club membership and secondly taken the time to get to an AGM or two I don’t think you can complain about the internet warriors not speaking out. Trust me they do and they are belittled and treated with contempt for it in spite of the fact they have the clubs interests at heart. Nobody gets up to their won benefit.

Have you ever spoken in public let alone to a hostile subject?

I don’t care about those clubs. I care about Collingwood and winning premierships.

Spin I understand and I accept. It’s what happens internally that matters.

On the topic, McGuire and Malthouse are professionals. They know how to address a crowd. It's not easy to speak your mind and say what you really mean. I'm not going to hold any grudges againt those people whom don't speak out or take action. Please try it before criticizing, it's not as easy as you think.
