This is the first time ive posted in the collingwood forum but im not a troll... Was just getting your thoughts on how rocca will go in 07? will he get bak to his form of 05 b4 he got injured?

Unlikely that Rocca will completely recover from such a serious injury fully. However he piffed in 50 goals in '06 on one leg so he will still be worth a spot and biff the odd enemy, just not the way he used to.

Half those 50 goals were against Zac Dawson. Ant has to become more than a flat track bully next season if we want to move forward. He's done it before (play well in big games when it counts) and he can do it again, injury permitting.

Truth be told, I hope he goes back to his old role (at centre half-forward), but I am lead to believe we need a big-bodied forward out of the goalsquare. He kicked 50 goals this season so he's no "washed-up hack". However, football is a strange sport at the best (and worst) of times, so I'm not going to rule out anything at this stage.

Can only see him improving his output from 06.

It was his first year back from a massive injury and he tired in the second half of the season.

same role at FF and if he can get 60+ it will have been a good year for Ant.

He may be able to have more time up the ground as we may want to put any of Buckley, T.Cloke or Rusling starting from the goal square.

But id much rather have the 3 mentioned players playing in front of big Ant, with thomas, medhurst, l.davis, egan, didak thrown in at different stages. A very potent forward line.

I think he will kick 40-50 goals as the strong body foward. Might play deep in the foward line. Possibly Rocca and Buckley start in the goal square with Cloke, Medhurst, Davis and Rusling starting at the 50m arc. Maybe

He stepped down voluntarily before the player group even voted for the leaders.

I imagine that if he had not done so, he would have remained in the group.

Not bad for someone who was far from his best... Unlike most essendon supporters and other opposition supporters who have given him a bit of a hard time this year I think he will bounce back next year. Rocca and Buckley in the goalsquare will be a nightmare for any defence.

The problem with those 50 goals was they were not spread out over the season. I remember after one game towards the end of the year, it was pointed out that Rocca and Tarrant had kicked something like 6 goals between them in 8 games. That stat is probably inaccurate as I don't remember it exactly but you get the idea.

yeah rocca would have kicked 80% of his goals in the first half of the season, fell away badly

Rocca said he has some "unfinished business" to take care of before he retires, he says he owes Collingwood he reckons ie. being apart of a team winning the flag. I will say this once and clearly... he stepped down as a vice-captain on his terms. He also said that the onus is on the younger players to step up and lead the club into the future.

Onya, Pebs.

He kicked 40 goals to Round 13 (3.33 per game) and then just 15 in the last nine matches (including the final) at a mere 1.67 per game. Take out the 6 against carlscum, and that's 9 goals in 8 matches.

Hope everyones remembered the new contest rule, where a defender cant have their hands on the forwards back ect. or whatever it is.
This will be a big big thing for Pebbles.
Tell me of one defender in the AFL who can stop Ant from standing his ground in the contest without them putting their hands on his back and giving a little shove.
