I didn't know what prefix to use, so I just went with Toast.

These two guys obviously have a lot of talent. Rockliff can get a lot
of the ball and Redden is a pretty hard player who loves a good tackle or 10.

I'm interested in what you all think; who should be the better player over the course of their careers?

I personally think they'll both achieve very highly, but Rocky will be the one to get more individual accolades imo.

What do you think? Discuss.

Bloody tough call. I love 'em both, but I think over the course of their careers Jack'll just shade Rocky as far as overall output goes, while Rocky might get more individual accolades (including captaincy)...if that makes any sense? I thinky Rocky has the skillset to stand out more in particular games, but Redden will just keep plugging away at a predictably high level. Really bad comparison (especially comparing norm smith and brownlow counts), but think Aka vs Black. They both bring something different to the team though, so ultimately, who cares? We're lucky to have 'em both...joined at the hip, no less.

What an interesting poll.

My vote goes with Redden, because of the cheek and the effort. I think they will have comparable careers, but I see Jack as the player that is determined to improve across the span of his career. Not to say that I don't get that from Rocky, but I get a stronger feeling from Redden. I realise that isn't very objective or scientific, but as this is such a close call that's all I have to work with.

I also think that Redden's body is better suited to a prolonged AFL career. I think he will soon overtake Rocky in league-wide acclaim, but they will stay close to each other through their career/s.

Love 'em both. fantastic footballers, and seem like great guys....

May they both have long and glorious careers at the Lions....

Have to give my vote to Redden. Redden's work rate swayed me and Rockliff doesn't have the most penetrating kick. I expect both to be regular top 5 in the b&f's and play between 250 and 300 games.

Soo hard to call, both seriously tough competitors.

I went for Rocky in the end though, just has a little more poise using the ball IMO.

Actually a little surprised Rocky is behind in the vote count at this stage but can't knock Redden.

This is my best analogy for comparing the two:

Rockliff most likely to win Brownlow
Redden most likely to win a Norm Smith

In other words Rocky has the more outstanding game generally but Redden's got a hard nosed game that could really stand out in he big games.

Redden - gets more contested footy, more tackles and has a little more polish.

Rocky - better around goals and better leadership.

For me it goes to Redden who has more upside. If Redden starts to learn how to accelerate out of contested situations and run and carry more his game starts to look pretty similar to Judd.

I have said Redden previously but I am starting to favour Rockliff for 2 main reasons.

Firstly, Rockliff's inside work is improving all the time. This was something quite noticeable in the second half of last year and, so far this year, he looks like continuing that rate of improvement. Redden is no slouch in the clearances but Rockliff just reads play slightly better and so knows where the ball will drop and, more importantly, knows how to get it to a teammate. He's getting more and more like Black in his clearance work.

Secondly, I've seen a couple of small signs that Voss wants to capitalise on Rockliff's work as a forward. His junior career indicates that Rockliff knows where the sticks are. He spent time forward in both the intraclub (was impressive) and in his Nab Cup hitout (not so impressive with the conditions). If Rockliff adds a 1.5 goals a game to what he already delivers, and can rest up forward instead of on the bench, he'll move into the Swan/Ablett territory. I don't see Redden having the same ability to be dangerous as a forward.

With both of them, the thing that they need to work on the most is the penetration of their kicking. Rockliff's first instinct is to go lateral - when he straightens up, he is a lovely short kick and needs to use this Luke Power style to get the team going forward instead of looking for the easy, sideways target. With Redden, he has the tools to kick through congestion but misses targets occasionally. When that happens, I reckon he goes back in his shell a bit and becomes less dangerous with his kicking.

Suffice to say, I'm glad we've got them!

This is a hard one. They both have such different qualities that make me glad they play for us.

Rocky is a natural leader, dedicated, footy smart and always looking for ways to improve.

Redden is both gutsy and skillful - he loves a contest and doesn't mind a goal.

All of every post above. Will drive each other to be the best they can, & the ceiling is pretty high.

All we need is a surrogate mother & technology so we can cross breed them.:D

Personally I think Rockliff isn't an A grader and may struggle to get a game in a couple of years, so I went with Redden.

Two different style midfielders and viva la difference!
Long term, they will only compliment a strong onballer group.
As to the better, all I can say is as a mug punter,
I would not hesitate to put all the Punters club money on Redden to make an all ozzie side before rocky.

I can't seperate them, different styles etc. Just very thankful we have them both (along with Rich and the rest of the young crew)

My mother reckons I should try and date Redden O_O

So I'm voting Rockliff. Rocky just looks harder and has a harder nickname, Reddo looks like he should be in high school picking on girls.

I couldn't choose. Both different in game style but yet both so the same in that they give their all for the Lions.

If I had to be pressed, i would pick Rockliff just cause he made himself by doing more in an off season. I really love self motivated players. (I confess that the way Redden goes about it, he probably works just as hard in the off season its just we don't hear about it).

At least they love each other:D

Geez what a choice! I went with Jack in the end but I'm not sure why either. They both have such potential but I've liked Jack's style for ages so he gets my vote for now.

Wow I'm surprised by the disparity, Redden over Rockliff!

Considering he's already our best player and has played less games I thought Rocky may have got the nod here.

I gotta say it seems a bit rough to me. In 2011 he had more disposals (both handbills & kicks) more contested possessions (contrary to beliefs of some), more clearances and more goal assists. And he Played 2 less games.

Only key stats where Redden got the better was tackles which is not hard to believe and his goal kicking accuracy.

I think the amount of games Rockliff has actually played to date where I thought, "he looks like an elite midfielder" is far greater than Jack's too.

Rockliff undervalued by Lion supporters? Hard to believe but I think so based on this survey!

Although I voted too close to call, I think "undervalued" might be a bit harsh Swanny10, most have indicated it is almost impossible to seperate them and that both will most likely be superstars. I don't think Rocky will ever be anything but exalted by our supporters. (Hammo excluded of course;))
