i just wanted to say how much i think this guy is the key to us upping our position on the ladder. barring Sandi and Pav and maybe hase, he is our most important player. He is the key to rebounding along with duffield.

great player, so underrated by the footy world except those who know better, namely us...... shame he isnt 24 instead of 29 :(

Hopefully he stays fit this year, because I have no doubt that a full season in the form he showed in his 2nd half of the north game, warrants an AA selection on the back flank.

Such a drm boat.

As much as I love Roger, I think guys like Duffield, Mundy, Johnson, McPharlin and Tarrant carry a greater importance to the team structure. In saying that, I do think he is equal to anyone playing that same position in the league.

He certainly has the talent to be an AA, and if he was playing for Collingwood he would likely grab an AA position, but I think he will continue to slip under the radar. That doesn't bother me one bit. I hope we can get another year or two out of him.

dont know about those two, but i take your point and agree witht the others you have mentioned

Agreed, he is barely even known over here in Melbourne. He was beautifully elusive last week v North and has had an awful run with injuries. He still has managed to return and produce at the highest level. His skills are vital for our defence in 2010.

Beautifully skilled player. Here is hoping that he has lots of sons and we can take them under Father/Son. Fingers crossed that the Eastern States remain naieve.

One of my favourite Freo players.:):thumbsu:

Agree with all of this, except I would probably replace Hase with Tarrant.

Our side look's allot better with his cool head in the backline and natural instinct's to centre the ball

I disagree.

Hayden has been a fave for a few years now.
My 9 year old son's 2 year old white jumper has number 43 on it (my left footed junior star asked for it). The AFL store in Booragoon said it was their first Hayden number request & they loved it (the guy working there was a former South Freo league player & cool guy who knew footy)
I believe Hayden was underrated terribly over the years, but as of this year his genius has been recognised.
It is like a light switch has been turned on for the footy public.
read some of the things others say about him. listen to the commentators (sorry about that one)
i use the description that he is a guy who you would have trouble tackling in a phone box. For you youngsters who don't know what a phone box is, ask an adult.

2nd most important player in the team, behind Sandi.

Not to say he's better than Pav, but I reckon we're a worse team without Hayden in it than without Pav.

I agree with you. He brings a level of composure and assurance to our play that no one else comes close to. He always directs the ball through the central corridor. No matter what's ahead be backs himself to find a way through and spot up something ahead that mere mortals wouldn't see. He is The Director, The Quarterback, he is The Genius.

Love the line about the Phonebox Willo. It's true!

I must agree Hayden 'adds something' when he is in our side.

Silky skills, intuitive elusiveness - fantastic willingness.

I do not disagree with any of the names mentioned above as to their importance. I like to think MOST important should include players who have an x-factor though. Roger has that in spades. All well and good being a consistent performer, a cool head, a reliable kick etc etc. But lump those up with an ability to instantly electrify? That's Genius.

Hopefully the injuries he has sustained (less gametime) will prolong his career - certainly not looking like slowing up...

Sorry tiger, but I believe if you reread what I wrote I was referring to his importance to team structures, not his overall individual brilliance. If I was referring to that he would have to be in the top 1 or 2 players at the club. The point I am making is it's a team game, and while he plays an important role in the team, his role is not as important as others.

I don't think you have won games with Pavlich have you? Pavlich is so much more important than Hayden, don;t be silly.

Umm, are you saying we don't win without Pav... Last week....

Pav rocks, but there are other players in the team buddy

We actually have a pretty good record in the (few) games Pav has missed over the years.

I love Roger but anyone who thinks he is more important that Pav is kidding themselves. He is important to our structure but I think Tarrant and even Ballantyne are more important also, along with Pav and Sandi. Could make a case for a couple of others also.

Do you remember us having a loss when Pav has been out? I can't remember any. Maybe he is jinxing us!

Newlander - Last year in Adelaide ring any bells?? I cant blame you for wiping that notorious debacle of a game from your memory - wish I could. Horrible horrible day for our football club.

Damn, all this time I just thought that was just a bad dream ;)

I wish I could, but I was at the game :(

No wonder we lost by so much. Birdesmaid was in the crowd. The ultimate in bad luck!!!

Rog may not be the best player in the team....but when he does play, the whole team plays a whole lot better......in fact if he wore different colours he maybe descibed as delicious !!
my fav bar none

Tough not to win an AA jumper a few years back.

You guys know hes been on our list for a decade or so right?

Excuse me champ,
Yours was probably the last post I read where he had been described as not rated highly enough.
I was not referring to his importance to the team if you read my post a bit closer, rather to his brilliance and that those outside the Freo family seem to have finally opened their eyes.
Sorry if I offended you, it was not my intention & fwiw although in my top 3 faves in the team, I would not rate him as in the top 3 of importance to the team.
Let's have a great year.
