Thoughts on Ronnie Burns joining for next season?

I'm amazed. Very surprised that we didn't hear anything about this beforehand.

This definately spells the end for Perrie and Schell IMO.

Won't be able to recognise our forward line next year, with Carey and Burns in the full forward line......

You know how every year at trade week, a name comes up as a potential trade, and you laugh, thinking no club would _ever_ be stupid enough to offer _anything_ for trade for that player?

We just did.

I dont get it?? ... why the hell did we pick up burns?? what can he bring to our side?

Burns is from the tiwi islands though, just like macca, so hopefully they can run amok together

I can only assume that

1. The powers that be think we lack crumbers and with Kane gone, we won't be "resting" Macca in the forward pocket as much.

2. We are missing Vardy a lot!

3. Ayresy thinks he can get Ronnie back to the player he was a few years back.

Big gamble this, I think. And probably a waste too.

Was Ben Finnin any good?

Finnin played most of the year with the Port Reserves.

His couple of league games he didn't doo much.

However at last years members meeting AYres said he was a really good prospect as a forward.

Obviously he hasn't come on as much as we hoped or we really wanted Burns and a Premiership in the next two years.

I am a bit worried about our lack of depth in the ruck department as we have no youngesters.

We MUST draft a young ruckman in the draft.

We are taking a big risk with Burns but given we have added CArey and Burns to the thrid or fourth highest scoring team, we should kick plenty of goals next year.

Or perhaps Welshs' OP is worse than we thought.

40-50 goals?

He will flourish whilst playing with Carey, although i hope some of your other forwards aren't overly goal hungry because their opportunities have just dropped significantly.

It was mentioned in the Herald-Sun late last week that the Crows were the only club to show interest in Ronnie.

I'll take that......

plus we get to say "rrrrrockin' rrrrrrrrronnie burns!!!!!!!" Worth having him just to be able to say that.

If RRRROOOOOOONNNNIIIIEEEE kicks 40 - 50 goals for us it will be one of the greatest trades ever done.

I've personally always seen him as a grossly overrated hack. I hope he can change my mind.

Thanks Jars458.

I hope it's not because of Welshy's OP. :(

It's a win for Geelong, regardless.

We can do without Ronnie's lack of discipline, both on and off the field.

We can also do without his constant run-ins with fellow players.

If Finnin never plays a game, we'll still be in front.

Good luck to Ronnie though, he should get 2 goals a week with Carey around.

why so pessimistic

ronnie's like farhmer - if he plays well, he is magic. if he doesnt, we dont hear of him in the game

if gary can get ronnie burns playing good footy (obvously garry think he can) he will be one of the recruits of the year

CAREY TORNEY & BURNS....

i like it, i like it!!!!

I starting to come round to the "calculated risk" idea. I feel that most of Ronnie's magic is behind him, but maybe Ayresy can do something with him.

Hopefully he leaves his lack of discipline, injuries and bad form behind him. We don't need that baggage.

Why we got Ronnie!

The club have one objective in mind: Win the flag!
It's a very exciting time!
Can't wait for next season!

Just a thought, feel free to rip into me, but are people (ie human beings not players) like Carey and Burns the kind of people to help the AFC go forward, both are ego maniacs, poor role models and are bringing alot of baggage with them in to a tight player group trying to win a premiership, and they may infact have a detremental affect on the club rather than a positive one. Just a thought.

Both players deserve a chance I guess. Hopefully the fresh start will allow them to leave the crap behind and just play some good football!

You could be right Captain.
BUT; if that could be managed away from the media cesspool which is Melbourne the possibilities are endless.

I think Ayres has been renowned for his disipline standards not to mention Reidy and the new players DOhave to gain his' trust.

And guess what......

we could have our third Cup by then:)

What risk? There is no risk. Finnen is a dud, and Burns is a proven matchwinner, although he's had a pretty average last couple seasons. Don't forget alot of that is due to constant hammy injuries. If he kicks 30 goals it will be a success, because he'll also set up alot of goals. If he kicks 40-50, Ayres will probably be declared a genius

Ronnie setting up goals :D

At the moment it looks a win-win for both clubs. Ronnie wasn't doing anything at Geelong and we don't want or need him there anyway. Plus you take all his salary, here's hoping.

Finnen will be welcomed. He has to be a better option than Foster and Woolnough. :)

Heres linking at ya kid!

Was that aimed at me?

If so, why do we need Ronnie?

This will at least give Ablett a decent chance and possibly even O'Brien, although I doubt he will survive the chop. There is no point having four players (Ronnie, Lord, Ablett and O'Brien) fighting for the one spot in the team. Especially when Thompson is unwilling to drop Burns.

Comparing Finnin to Burns is stupid.

1) They are completely diff.
2) Burns has shown his class at AFL level
3) Rockin Ronnie will contribute next year..

That being said.. I CANT BELIEVE WE TRADED FOR THIS EGO FILLED, HAS BEEN FOOL :D

RONNNNIIIEEEEEE!!!
