Keep in mind that the Gold Coast have already been given access to the 20 best youngsters in the land as underaged players last year (Vader, feel free to correct me on the quantity if that's wrong). So effectively, the team that finishes 15th will get picks 26 and 48, not 6 and 28 as you suggest. There may actually be no point in rocking up to the draft at all...I hope they make it a trade month instead of week this year, it should be an active one.
They got to sign a number of kids from the Qld and NT zone. Most of these probably won't ever play AFL, they were more recruited to make up the numbers in the VFL side. Most of the good ones opted not to sign, nominating for the draft instead.

They also got to sign 12x 17yo kids born Jan-April 1992. These are the kids who were effectively excluded from the 2009 ND when the AFL changed the minimum draft age. Lets be generous and say that half of them (6 in total) were worthy of a first round selection.

They also have picks 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 and so forth. Assuming we finish 15th, we'd be looking at pick #6 in the draft. In reality, it's probably worth about pick 8 or 9 if the draft hadn't already been raided by GC before season 2010 even began.

Roo is retired, unless he is willing to start a coaching career with the Crows he should stick to what he knows, belting blokes in Renmark.

Ah ok, I thought they just had open slather on underage players. I guess you're right about the strike rate on these guys too...at 17 nobody rated Pavlich (so much so that we pick Kenny instead :() but the year after he's number 3.

THAT'S it. Adelaide's hopes of making the AFL finals blew up in smoke against Carlton at AAMI Stadium on Saturday.
History shows you simply cannot make the top eight after losing your first four games. If the Crows had lost their first four matches against highly-rated opponents, maybe there would be a way back.
But they have lost to four teams who at the start of the season were not expected to contend for the eight.

While it's mathematically possible to make the eight, Crows coach Neil Craig must get his side to continue to focus on the finals otherwise the team could disintegrate.
There's a lot of talk about playing younger players ahead of older players but it is far too early to do that.
They must ignore popular opinion and focus on rewriting history by going 100 per cent at making the finals.
So, are we cactus or not? What a contradictory article.

I think I get what he's trying to say though: We're gone but we should keep picking his mates anyway.
