Based purely on the fact that NOK was our first rookie pick then I would select him. After that any promotions would be on a needs basis.

While I love the leap and romance of Holmes, it'd be hard to justify. There's only one, maybe one-and-a-half spots for a ruck in the seniors. Longer is a lock. Hickey waiting, Pierce yet to debut but impressing in the pre-season according to Richo.

Would be nuts to make the call now. So you upgrade Coghlan, find that he's out of his depth at AFL level, meanwhile both Longer and Hickey do 3 week hamstrings at the same time and Holmes is stuck in with the Rookies.

I think its a free upgrade. We can make the decision when it suits us. eg We'll either reward preseason/NAB Cup form or use it for positional needs

I agree. At first I thought it'd be Coughlan because he plays in a similar position to Carlisle. But the club seem really impressed with NOK so I'm expecting NOK to get the nod.

Upgrading someone doesn't necessarily guarantee them a game. It just allows us to give them one with ease.

I might have missed the answer, but do we have a deadline date for an upgrade?

FWIW i'm with the pack in saying NOK has to be the front runner, but Holmes has to hold some weight in the argument if the Hickey Forward/Ruck plan starts to go arse up.

Even after the NAB Challenge there's no pressure but they'll look at it.

"Addressing the timing around announcing the possible replacement, Senior Coach Alan Richardson admitted there was no urgency to do so, and suggested the Saints would look at naming a replacement player at the conclusion of the 2016 NAB Challenge competition."

Our usual approach is to only elevate someone when their about to play in the seniors.
