Well neutral fans hate hearing Roos commentating Sydney games. What do we think about him commentating ours?

I love Roos for all he has done for us but i am finding him absolutely painful when commentating our games.
It is blatantly biased and too boys club for my liking.
It must be absolutely annoying to neutral supporters having a commentator constantly referring to our players by their nicknames (Goodesy, Pykey, Mcveighey..etc.) and talking non stop about what the Swans are doing well enthusiastically while not giving the opposition team anywhere near enough insight.

TBH i just find it completely cringeworthy and feel that Roos should be banned from commentating Swans games.

What do you think?

I agree. It's cringeworthy when he takes Swans games, despite the insight he gives.

Any in game commentary by Roos is a little annoying for me. As someone said last night, it's not special commentary if you talk all the time. But he should probably betaken off Swans games.

He's great for On The Couch and those kind of shows where he can think about what he says and explain himself clearly. He explains tactics and analysis better than any other commentator on television that I can think of.

Agree, in general he talks far too much for a special commentator. Doesn't share the time with the other commentators.

I've said this in the match day threads on the main board. It's a novelty for me to actually hear some barracking in our favour in the commentary box. For years we have had to listen to Vic-centric commentary that showed little interest in our side with the exception of oh they're a brave side / culture / why do we right them off? etc followed by the begrudging acknowledgement when the "experts" are shown to be wrong again.

I can completely understand why the neutrals can't stand it as the mates club has long been their domain (KB and BT for Richmond, BT and Eddie for Collingwood, Brereton and Quartermain for Hawthorn, Huddo for Geelong, Walls and Lane for Carlton etc.) Well, the tables have turned and they can't stand it.

Not a huge fan of the length of time he talks for but he knows his shit more than most. Let's face it, the people whinging have lots of options. There's the mute button, the radio or the off button.

He is over familiar with the players which does make him appear a tad biased but he doesn't lose himself in the moment and just blurt out ridiculous hyperbole like a lot of ex-players do. "Greatest ever", "elite" blah blah. His is considered knowing there are no absolutes in a single moment of play - its just a single moment of play. He does point out a trend and a does provide options for people teams to try if not successful (one-on-one is a favourite).

I can appreciate others not liking him... but I don't mind him...over familiar yes, maybe even biased but not wrong!

Roos's commentary doesnt even seem like barracking to me ... its like he is still the coach or playing even.

i also find it really pretty cringe how he seems to be always casually backslapping him himself about some of the recruiting. It isnt so bad anymore, but their use to not be an episode of on the couch without at least one reference to 'joey kennedy' and how they were 'rapt to get him'.

I think when they have one commentator who is ex one of the teams playing then they should even it up with an ex from the other team. I thought the commentary yesterday was very good but I wouldn't want to be an Essendon supporter. Maybe Roos dominates because the respect others in the box have for him. I think less could be more.

When we live in a world of 'Heath Shaw' 'Ben Reid' and others running around for the Swans, and Mattner and Grundy constantly getting mixed up. Is it so bad to have just ONE commentator who actually knows the Swans and talks about us? I have no issue with him.

If I was a non-Swans I would be apoplectic about his commentary but as a Swans fan I love every single bit of his commentary and especially his familiarity with the players.

I like Roos and I think that he brings a lot of Swans related knowledge to the table. Something that has been lacking of late in commentary circles.

I also think that his 'barracking' is a little overblown, especially on the main board. However, he does need to turn it down a notch

Looking forward to ten years time when his liooooons bias has you lot cringing after coaching us to another threepeat ;)

Please, everyone knows in ten years time all commentary will be done via Twitter updates posted on the bottom of your tv screen

I really love Roos on On The Couch and those analytical fox footy shows, he has a brilliant football brain and really suits that style.

As a commentator though, cringeworthy. It's not just the bias aspect (though I do agree with that), he talks for too long while play is happening and kind of gets in the way Huddo or whoever should be calling the actual game. He is more of a "special comments" type commentator and those contributions should be short and sweet like Cameron Ling etc.

But yeah, me and my friend started hurling abuse at the television yesterday when he started basically implying we had the game in the bag when there was still most of the last quarter to play, the Bombers immediately started making a run at it. As a superstitious Swans supporter I can't stand when he does that.

I understand all the hate from neutrals/ swans haters . But seeing as we don't get a mention any other time , it's good to have someone putting some spotlight on us. In saying that I think a small part of roos likes to take credit for the swans successes and to me that's taking away from how good of a coach horse is

Not to mention the jack/hannebry/okeefe/ Mitchell mix ups we put up with constantly

Not a fan of his commentary, he knows what he's talking about but rambles on for far too long and drains out so much of the play by play calling. Would probably be reasonably good in neutral games if he condensed a lot of what he was saying in didn't go on and on.

Also he should not be calling players by their nicknames, it's annoying when other commentators do it for other sides and you never know who they're talking about, so can imagine it being frustrating for neutrals or people learning the game.

With Ricutto doing the Adelaide game and Roos doing the Sydney game, why not swap them around and try and organise commentary teams with no affiliation to the playing teams. Can't be that hard.

When he first started it was understandable, and I think we all expected him to get a bit more neutral as time went on and he became more practiced. Unfortunately, if anything he's getting worse. He's a great commentator for neutral matches, but I really do cringe when he commentates Sydney games. Needs to either sharpen up his act or stop commentating on our games.

He is ok on the couch where you need to rabbit on, but he just talks non stop, him and lynch together is boring.

He talks us up too much, but i guess i can live with it, just got embarrasing yesterday, dont get me wrong we are a good side but just make a point once.

Yeah there's been a few cases where I've seen people mockingly quote what he's said when another commentator had said it. There'll also be times when he's explaining how teams are setting up further off the field off camera and people in the game day thread are saying "DID YOU HEAR HIM CALL HIM JOEY??"

Which brings my to my thoughts, I think he IS too familiar with Swans players, I think he does speak for too much as a colour commentator, and definitely self congratulates, however given for the majority of the time he's commentating he is actually explaining what's happening out on the field, I can forgive him tacking a -y on the end of every proper noun.
