Coulda I like how you sneaked in your own love of Silva pretending Ross mentioning him as a player that would help us to the GF:D

Yep... it happened earlier than that. The bolded were RTB's comments. Then Coulda switched over to his own thoughts without clarifying that they were his. The first clue was that Ross said nothing at all about Apeness during that interview:

RTB stated that Taberner is a chance to play at some stage maybe not this week .
Playing 2 ruckmen may change but we will look at it .
Mora may get another game this year .
Apeness is on our radar .
This is al about next year guys not this season .
We will go with who's the best match up on the day nothing more nothing less .
I love the way RTB thinks about how the team is going and how he plans for each game .
We need to play the rest of the season like we did in the last quarter against Geelong .
Crozier has speed as does Hill ,these are the type of players that will get us to the Grand final .
Silvagni is another player that can help us get there as well.

Ross is obviously seeing something that I'm not. I'm not sure what Taberner has going for him to be honest. I want him to at least start showing a bit of mongrel.
The difference between Crozier's game on Saturday and his 20 others was his commitment, intensity, and confidence. That was the difference between Duffy and every other debutant Freo's had for years. Taberner has not improved in that element at all. Apeness showed that he thought he belonged but just didn't have the fitness. Tabs is happy to get a game of AFL and doesn't impose himself at all.

Kayne Turner for the Kangaroos is the youngest player in the comp, weighs quite literally 70 kilos, isn't significantly tall, had never played AFL before, and is probably sitting in a classroom as we speak. The guy came out and had no reservations. He played a cracker and didn't show any intimidation, but did show eagerness.

All I want is for Taberner to look at himself. He's a big guy. He's not that skinny. He's played a few games for Freo. He has to realise he's out there because a good coach reckons he's good enough to. Stand up for yourself and believe you're good enough to beat anyone, you can kick 5, and go hard for every contest and try your guts out – even just for your benefit. But he just dawdles around and shows not a centimetre of earnestness.

He should be embarrassed that Duffy played half a game in a losing side and showed more than he ever has.

Clarke and Suban for melbournes top pick?

Clarke does alright when he is the first ruckman. We will need him most when Sandi retires which is sooner rather than later. He seems a bit lost when he's playing 2nd ruckman/resting forward.

I love Suban too much to trade him. He has too much fire in his belly and keeps me entertained.

I don't see anybody here rubbishing Taberner here? being critical, sure. But I don't think anybody's stamped his papers.

Well I hope you don't blame me but your OTT sarcastic post did kinda give off that vibe. ;)

Unfortunately can't agree on the last line though, seen plenty posters who have done exactly this (namely SA). Still a pre-season away imho from being able to contribute effectively to the senior team but I really believe he has the tools to become a good forward. His lack of aggression/intent in the contest honestly doesn't worry me too much, when he fills out and gets more confidence in his body this will develop.

Will definitely learn a thing or two from playing in the same team as Apeness though.

That post was more of a poke at those who are deluded in thinking that he's up there with the dominant key forwards in the WAFL competition - which let's face it, he's not. I don't see his name anywhere near the top of the list in the running for the Bernie Naylor medal anytime soon.. Not that that could be classed as having stamped his papers in any case.

Whilst there's no doubt he has some tools, in my opinion I see his lack of bodywork being a crucial factor in whether or not he makes a fist of his chance in the AFL going forward. As you mentioned, he's young and it can only help playing in a side with such a physical beast in Apeness showing how crashing the packs is done.

I think they desperately want Taberner to do well and are emulating him as much as possible in the hope that he believes his own hype and performs at that level.

RTB has already proven his knowledge of the subconscious before and I wouldn't be surprised if everybody down at the club engages in rigorous deep-hypnotherapy all day every Wednesday.

The same thing Zac Dawson does. Height. 197cm mobile forwards don't grow on trees, and the hard reality is that you need to have a couple of tall forwards, even if they aren't as good as your mid-sized players.

Everyone is balking at Tabs as he keeps getting compared to Roo. We need to start comparing him to someone realistic. Q.Lynch maybe? Mobile big guy who's a bit fumbly under pressure.

I think Tabs will grow into a role. I'm not sure if he's ready this season but if Ross reckons he is... Come on down Tabs.

Tabs is still growing into his body. He may very well be groomed for a mobile CHF position - which could work very well, but this is going to take longer than we would all like - Patience, young Grasshopper.
