In the last round it was more than a year difference (23y6m vs 24y8m). They also averaged 93 games per player vs 72.1 for us. They played 5 players with 150+ games and we played 2. They played 8 players < 50 games, we played 12.

None of this is insignificant. They are fielding a team closer in demographic to Melbourne. We are fielding a younger and less experienced team than Carlton. They easily have the lowest win/loss of those teams playing a demographic near in their range. We have a win/loss better than all the teams fielding teams with a similar demographic to us.

Do either of our teams deserve deserve to be put on a pedestal... no.

edit - what Paracleet said :)

don't kid yourself, the only reason the difference was that much is due to our current run of injuries, take a look at our team from round 8 of THIS year:

Avg Age: 24y6m
Avg Games: 85.5

You should look at the statistical rankings compared to last year rather than W/L. We have improved markedly from being last or near last in important categories like field kicking. How many 100pt losses have we had this year compared to last? Open your eyes.
not to mention the fact we had single digit wins against
north(twice),melbourne and richmond last year
that 8 wins last year could have easily been 5
we are going okay with our re-build ,don't let the knockers get to you

In fact we've only had less than 11 under 50 games on two occasions this year. Round 1 and the home game against North (8 and 9 respectively.)

You can knock the club and Lyon legitimately I feel in some ways for putting us in the position in the first place, but arguing we are performing below expectations now is just plain wrong. We're probably trending above expectation for a club with a list as it stands at this stage.

We had most of ours late last year and this season isn't over yet. If Melbourne kicked straight that would be 100 any day of the week.
Statistics mean Jack Shit. Is a coached sacked because they are 18th in Clearances or 17th In CP?
No. its Win / Loss...….I suggest you open your eyes

But that's my point. A new coach coming in completely resets the time-scale because the club can sell the idea that the previous path was flawed (which satisfies the 'baying' supporters who hold that opinion) and enables them to sell that they're on a new path etc.

I'd rather the club employ who they think can do the best job rather than try to appease the masses.I acknowledge this is not how it normally works.

if it's win/loss he currently sits 12th off all coaches to coach more than 100 games (since 1965). Interestingly 1st (scott), 2nd (longmire), 5th (simpson) and 6th (clarkson) on that list are currently coaching. Probably indicates the effect of the one, two punch that was expansion and free agency being introduced simultaneously.

Lyon was probably 4th a few years back but has gone down the ladder recently. Doubt he will return back up.

Personally I’m moving further towards the remove Ross The Boss camp.

However, as someone who works and consults in the Executive Management space, I will say that the most effective operations never remove a senior leader without identifying a suitable successor.

The way that the club replaced Mark Harvey was subject to scrutiny and criticism due to the nature of the public interest in football clubs. Reality is that what the club did is not at all unusual for medium and large organisations and they should be commended for the attracting talent they believed they required.

Short of some kind of gross misconduct requiring immediate removal (arguably already happened) the club should in my view be looking at all possible options to find the best successor on the market (or not on the market as it may be).

We should be identifying the right person for the job (Clarkson, Caracalla, Longmuir etc) and going after them. We are well resourced and can afford to pay what’s required to get the deal done.

They have identified the right person and I like it Ross has run his race with me too much negative defensive football doing my head in. As in EPL there should be some prerogative on coaches to coach an entertaining style of football not the mind numbing trash Ross serves up to people looking for some entertainment on a weekend.

I haven't stopped, I just didn't fill out your form.

Yes because it doesn’t fit your neurotic trolling narrative. If you are so strong on your own point that we haven’t developed anyone etc then copy and paste and it will take you two minutes to fill out.

That is if you have the courage of your convictions and are actually willing to enagage in intellectually honest discussion. Rather than trolling snipery.

What would be the point? I would say "Neale has reached his ceiling" you would quibble, there would be back and forth, then we'd come to an impasse and you'd disagree with my assertion that Sean Darcy won't be a great ruckman until he's 25+, and we'll go back and forth some more, nitpicking each classification of the players.

I agree on Neale - and would hope he goes back to kicking a few more goals a year.

On Darcy I agree his best years will be from 25 on.

Is that reasonable?
