Rottnest trio sign new contracts, but lose Tippett and Waite

The Rottnest Razorbacks can today confirm that key trio Eddie Betts, Andrew Raines and Nic Naitanui have re-signed at the club after the club successfully won the rights to retain their services through the bidding system.

Betts has signed a new 3 year deal whilst Raines is staying put for 2 seasons.

Rottnest coach had this to say

"We are delighted to retain both Eddie and Andrew for a few more season's, they are well respected amongst the group and with such a young list they offer on-field leadership aswell. They are happy to stay here and we are happy to have them and look forward to them playing their part in the side next season and beyond."

Superstar Nic Naitanui was the signing the club wanted most and can confirm he has signed a massive 5 year deal that ties him to the club long term.

peterss had this to say on the big signature of his young ruckman.

"We are absolutely over the moon! We knew he would be hard to retain given the bidding system in place for uncontracted players, but we were always going to do eveything in our power to match all bids and keep him at our club. He is a key player in this club going forward and to have him for the next 5 years atleast is sensational. We look forward to much more excitement from Naita for many years to come!"

The club also confirmed today that key position players Kurt Tippett and Jarrad Waite will unfortunately not be at the club in season 2012 due to not being able to match what other clubs were offering for their services.

"Its certainly dissapointing to lose two quality players in Kurt and Jarrad, especially given they are both key position players, we just couldnt match the offers from other clubs though, we tried our best but it wasnt to be. We wish them all the best at their new clubs and rest assured we will be doing everything in our power to replace both of these players with just as much quality if not more."

Rottnest Welcome Ash Smith, Hams joins Vultures.

Rottnest today made their second trade during the trade window.

Ashley Smith has come to Rottnest on a 3 year deal whilst in exchange gave up small Ashton Hams.

Coach peterss was available at Rottnest HQ this evening and had this to say.

"When we realised that Ash Smith was an uncontracted player, we were interested in him. Rottnest's philosophy is that if a trade can be strck rather then bidding then its the path we go down as its easier not only for us but for the other side involved aswell."

"We approached the Vultures to enquire about Ash Smith and they were interested in developing discussions further."

"Ash Smith in our opinion had a break out year in 2011 and can play a role both in defence and through the middle. We are delighted to have him and look forward to continuing to develop him over the next few years to turn him into a quality player."

"Ashton unfortunately was dissapointed with his lack of oppurtunity this season at our club and said that if a trade could be struck then he would like to move elsewhere in search of more oppurtunity. We rate Hammy as a player and he is certainly a little pocket rocket, and we wish him all the best at the Vultures"

Rottnest have confirmed they are still chasing a KP forward whether it be via trading or bidding. The clubs members, supporters and sponsers will be notified as soon as any further player movement has taken place.

Jamison stays put

Young Key defender Michael Jamison has today agreed to a new three year contract to remain at the Rottnest Razorbacks.

Jamison was an uncontracted player meaning he had to go through the biding process of other sides but is said to be delighted to remain at Rottnest.

"Im delighted, certainly, after-all it was Rottnest who signed me as a rookie a few seasons ago and they have developed me and i always wanted to stay at the club who gave me the first chance as a player. I look forward to atleast the next three seasons at the club" Jamison said.

Coach peterss had this to say "We were always going to keep Jamo, it was I who originally signed him as a rookie and then saw enough development from him to offer him a spot on the senior list, and since then he has not looked back and has grabbed the oppurtunity and has continued to develop, Hes still only young and we are stoked to have him here"

Jon Griffin stays put.

Ruckman Jon Griffin today signed a 3 year contract extension to remain at the Rottnest based side.

Coach peterss had this to say

"Griff is a quality ruckman and gives us the back-up we need, he was dissapointed with the lack of game time last season at the club but he loves the set up here and wanted to stay and we know that if he keeps putting in the hard work then his oppurtunity will come"

Stevens welcomed to Rottnest, Sheppard departs.

Young gun Koby Stevens has today officially been unveiled to the media as the clubs latest signing, in a trade that saw fellow youngster Brad Sheppard head to St Kilda in what was a trade that also involved a swapping of picks.

"Shepp was going to be uncontracted at season's end and when we saw we could get Koby Stevens on a a 4 year deal we jumped at the chance, we obviously had to wait to see if we could fit him in under the cap and when we realised we could we had no hesitation in doing the trade."

"We obviously do rate Shepp but for the long term future of the club to be able to sign a player on a 4 year deal and not have to worry about trying to retain them at the end of this season is always handy, We know Shepp will be a quality player but we also know that young Koby will also develop into a quality midfielder aswell. The fact we were uble to get a pick upgrade in this trade is also a bonus, and now gives us back-to-back picks which is what we always try and aim for each off-season"

"We wish Brad all the best in his future and welcome Koby to the club"

Jay Van Berlo promoted to senior list.

Rottnest Razorbacks can confirm that young rookie listed player Jay Van Berlo has been promoted to the senior list after he was ineligible to be kept on the rookie list.

Club coach peterss had this to say.

"Jay has been terrific since he has been on the rookie list for us, his work rate and ethic and willingness to learn has been second to none and he has really blossomed as a player and as a result we have rewarded him with a 2 year deal on the senior list"

"We feel he adds alot of verstility and it has shown in training drills and practice matches that he can run through the middle or as a defensive forward or even a defender so he's going to be handy for us in the games he plays"

"We look forward to continuing to see Jay develop as a player and we are delighted to have him on the senior list and eligible for selection each week"

List finalised before National Draft

Rottnest have finalised and submitted their list before the commencment of the national draft.

Rottnest currently have 34 listed senior players and the compulsory picks in the draft of 10, 25 and 26 which gives the club the option to leave a spot open for a player in the PSD or use a 4th pick in #52

Welcome to Rottnest - Pick 15 - Hayden Crozier.

Rottnest today officially unveiled mid sized forward Hayden Crozier to the media after he was drafted with the clubs first selection (Pick 15 overall) in the national draft.

Rottnest coach had this to say at today's announcement.

"We are delighted to get Hayden with our first pick in the draft. He can certainly take a high flying mark and has the making of a player who can be used up forward or through the flanks and middle once he build his body up."

"We feel he will add alot to our side over the coming years and look forward to seeing develop and work on the area's he needs to and become a quality player for us."
