The Hawks commence their premiership defence with a round 1 grand final re-match against the Casey Demons at Box Hill City Oval, as the curtain raiser to Hawthorn's game against North Melbourne in the afternoon.
With Chris Newman now a full-time Hawthorn coach, Max Bailey will take the coaching reigns for the first time in a big match, which will be broadcast live on TV in Victoria on Channel 7. In addition to the coaching change, the playing list has been significantly overhauled, with 15 of the 33-listed Hawks from 2018 leaving the club. Captain Andrew Moore was the only returning member from last year's leadership group. Gone from the club's list include Anthony Brolic (Rowville), Mitch O'Donnell (Norwood), Chris Jones (South Croydon), Max Warrens, Nick Evans, Will Hams (Old Xavs) and Billy Murphy (relocated to Queensland).
But the Hawks have managed to recruit some quality replacements, with Damian Mascitti (2017 premiership player with Port Melbourne), Luke Meadows (WAFL) and Nathan Mullenger-McHugh (Western Bulldogs), Mason Dewit (Frankston), Connor Byrne (Coburg) and Aaron Cotte (Bayswater) all signing with the Hawks in the off-season.
Teams to come.
