Good idea!Replace him with Dean Cox or Mumford....Oh, wait, they dont play for us.
Get real we have Hudson Minson Roughhead and Cordy.Roughhead was dropped for a reason, done bugger all in the two's and is injured. Havent seen Cordy play yet but from all reports just isnt ready yet.So Hudson must play by default for the time being.

What a riduculous response, think things through before you have a shot in future. Hang on, maybe your right lets not make any changes and see what happens?

Why?The only change you proposed was to drop Hudson for another Ruckman. My point was that we dont realy have one available that is quite ready.I wasnt advocating no changes just that there are others more deserving of bieng dropped this week.Grant defenitly possibly Gia,Hall to come back in and maybe yong Reid.

Plenty of anger and disappointment floating about.

I guess one of the issues is that we have players who often do just enough to keep their spot.

Sometimes it is hard to really see from a spectating perspective, just who is doing what they are supposed to be doing.

I do believe that Gia has again been unfairly maligned as he did get himself involved in the scoring we did manage and his role in the forward line was made more difficult by the complete lack of presence from Grant and Higgins.

On the performance against West Coast I would say only Morris, Boyd, Cross (defensive job on Priddis), Jones, Gia and Minson earnt a game this week. Wood was ok for his 1st game back and I actually thought Stack at least had a go. Sherman got a few touches but seemed to give it to the opposition a lot. i am not sure either contribute to TEAM.

Now we can't drop 12 or 15 players and you do need to have someone to replace them.

My view is Higgins must have OP and should be put on LTI and given the right treatment and rehab. Elevate Dalhaus.

Grant has been poor ALL YEAR and even back to last years finals. His 3 goals against Richmond came very late, and I felt by half time in that game he should be dropped.

Stack is everyone's target but he tries.

The match committee need to identify who is not doing the team thing and regardless of who that is ...and they know where as supporters we don't really...out they go.

Do Gilbee and Ward have carry over credit from the Richmond game ....Ward definitely

So it does become a little harder to decide who to cut.

My outs
Definite Must GO
Grant, Higgins

Maybe
Hudson, Stack, Sherman, Gilbee

Markovic or Williams only if Lake is brought in.

Possible Ins
Wallis, Sam Reid, Dalhaus (definte if LTI spot available) Hall, Cordy, Howard (although he hasn't played for 2 weeks), Hill.

I do realise that I have partly contradicted myself but that is just the nature of where we are at.

I have been reading through this thread and have genuinely enjoyed some of the suggestions that have been put forward, most of which I honestly think should happen

But the question I have with this club is how come nothing ever happens?

I agree with people saying Gia, Cross, Gilbee and others are not up to it and need to be dropped. Not just after this loss but many times in previous years as well.

But how come it NEVER happens????

I remember a couple of seasons ago St.Kilda were branded soft and Ross Lyon dropped Dal Santo and some other top players to the VFL. I remember they went on to win the game with some youngsters and up until now they have been a much superior team, as much as it hurts me to say that.

I never recall our team dropping star players who do not perform or who are one sided. Why not? Week in week out the players who are in or out (bar injuries) are Stack, Hill, Moles, Addison, Jones,

Coming into this season i was looking forward to a new start in a sense.
I seriously hope new play Howard, Vez, Schofield, Cordy, Dahlhaus, Tutt and Reid, like every before me has mentioned but nothing ever seems to happen

Hopefully the West Coast game was a favour in disguise

To get a senior game sooner rather than later.

Dalhaus (Once Dogs can promote him to senior list)
Vezpremi (As soon as fit)
Skinner (And start him on the ground)

I'll do a copy and paste job from another thread:

When will you morons realise that Cross played as a tagger on Priddis and did a good job? He is one player who can say he beat his opponent. He isn't superman, and can only do so much by himself. He isn't the problem.

The problem isn't that Boyd and Cross are too slow either. The problem is that there isn't enough support around them. The fast hard running outside mids are the problem. Cross and Boyd have had to try to pick up the slack because there isn't anyone else. Cooney didn't play. Ward got SMASHED. Griffen was okay. We need more of these types of players to support the good work of of Cross and Boyd.

Is Cross any slower than Luke Ball? No. Is Boyd any slower than Pendlebury? No. Ward is meant to be our Dale Thomas. Griffen is meant to be our Swan. Then what? On the weekend Collingwood also had Wellingham, Sidebottom, Krakouer, Didak, Beams, Blair, MacCarthy and Heath Shaw all spending time in the middle. They add hard running and speed to their team. We have what? Sherman, Picken and Moles - who was the sub and bought on when the game was over. Not enough of these types of players. This is terrible coaching, and the reason why out midfield sucked.

Wood is a part of our back 6, and they shouldn't be stuffed around with too much. A few minutes on the ball wouldn't hurt too much though. Same goes for Robert Murphy. They will both add some pace, and hard running to the team.

Giansiracusa is too slow in the middle, and there is no place for small forwards who cannot play on ball in modern football. This applies to Gilbee too. Higgins isn't fit. All 3 should be cut, and we NEED to bring in players who can rotate through the middle. I don't care if Gia is a decent forward. That is of little use when we cannot even get the ball down there. LeCras had 29 disposals and pushed into the middle at times. It is so easy to see why we have been getting smashed. Hawthorn is one of the hardest running teams in the league at the moment, and we will get embarrassed again if we do not quickly address the lack of midfield run.

Also, for more evidence of Cross and Boyd being okay you only have to look at our opponents this week. Mitchell. Sewell. Fast? Nope. How can Hawthorn afford to have these players in their team then?

Eade said that he thinks games are won and lost in the midfield.

Mitchell, Sewell, Lewis, Sheils, Hodge, Rioli, Burgoyne, Bateman, Osborne, Savage, and I fully expect them to bring Smith (FAST) in for Bruest and even Franklin plays as a mid sometimes. That makes 12.

Cross, Boyd, Griffen, Libba, Picken, Sherman, Ward, Moles ....??????????
Hopefully Cooney comes in, but we will still be outnumbered. We will be knackered, and the Hawks will kick 10 in the last quarter, due to us running out of puff. Remember Collingwood? We are notorious for leaking goals in red time too. I wonder why.

Why do some of you here keep saying put Josh Hill back in the side after one half decent game in the twos. Last year he was in and out of the team about 3 or 4 times and every time he was dropped back to the 2nds he played well, got back in the seniors, then played terrible again.

He shouldn't get another game this year, and him and Stack should be delisted at seasons end, they just don't belong.

Hill has been acceptable to good this year. He is a flexible player who can play in any third of the ground. He has shown composure in defense, and is more than capable as a forward. He would offer more to the forward line than Grant has been dishing up. He is a dangerous forward capable of kicking a bag, and his effort and attitude have improved this year. However, he is still a fringe player, just outside the 22 at this stage.

Spot on re the Hawthorn midfield. Add Hodge and Lewis, and to a lesser extent Shiels to the "slow" category. What makes our middle strong though is the likes of Savage, Smith, Bateman, Osborne, Rioli etc who can break free of stoppages once Hodge etc have won the initial possession. So I would think Boyd and Cross are the least of your worries. A fully fit Cooney would go a long way towards your midfield winning more clean footy.

Maybe with positions on the ground being less evident these days it's more appropriate to look at how much run we have in the side.

Last week against WC, this was the breakdown.

WB's

KP's: Markovic, Morris, Williams, Hudson, Minson, Grant, Jones (7)
Runners:Murphy, Wood, Stack, Boyd, Cross, Griffen, Higgins, Ward, Moles, Sherman, Hargrave, Libba, Gia, Gilbee, Picken (15)

WC

KP: Glass, Schofield, Kennedy, Darling, Lynch, Naitanui, Cox, (7)
Runners: Hurn, Smith, Butler, Selwood, Embly, Priddis, Rosa, Nicoski, Shuey, A Selwood, Kerr, Lecras, Ebert, McGinnity, Masten (15)

Looking at this we have the same amount of running players but maybe some of our runners are too one dimensional, as highlighted in bold above.

This is my opinion of where we can improve this week;
Hudson - Cordy (relief ruckman for Minno, mostly a running FWD)
Stack - Schofield (More run through the midde attacking player)
Gia - Wallis (Can go into the middle/ or ask Gia to play as a mid)
Gilbee - Veszpremi (goal kicking mid in junior days)
Markovic/Williams- Lake (at his best an attacking defender)

Keep Higgins if fit, is a gun but if not fit rest him!
Concerned about Shermans defensive game a bit but would keep him in.

Just my thoughts for this weekend

Let's face facts. Gia, gilbee, cross and Hudson are simply too slow for today's footy. Forget Gilbee's goals last week. Clearly time to bite the bullet. We have nothing to lose and good clubs make hard decisions. I hope we do this week:

Out - Gia, gilbee, cross, hudson, grant, stack
In - cooney, hall, lake, Cordy, howard, wallis

Cross and hudson have been superb for us, but time waits for no man, and time has passed these guys by unfortunately. The club is bigger than the individual and its time to move on these guys.

if cross is too slow then why doesn't rocket play libba and wallis together in the centre, they both know how each other plays and i reckon it'd be an exciting ball to get out of the middle with them two it would be raining goals if the ball got to barry a few times out of the middle

Yeah exactly. If you look at WC they had 4 (Hurn, Smith, Butler, Nicoski) who didn't spend any time through the midfield. We had Murphy, Wood, Stack, Higgins, Hargrave, Giansiracusa and Gilbee. No wonder we looked slow.

It creates a situation where Cross has to play on a fresh, faster player who can run their guts out for short bursts, then have a rest. Cross should be matched up with the Luke Ball's and Sam Mitchell's. Not have to play against a fresh Masten, who is quicker to begin with. We need more players in the mold of Cooney, Griffen and Ward. Hawthorn has plenty of them. If we don't at least match them, we will get run off our feet again.

For a start they will not drop eight players in a week, and you have to be joking that they will drop crossy, hudo, gilbs and (higgins after one game) for a side like hawthorn no way. moles will be a scap goat again, grant has to find form with willy, stack also needs to stay at willy for more than a week. hall, lake and cooney will come in for stack, grant and (moles unfortunatly).

This Ask Gia to play as a mid, he is doing what Eade is asking of him to do

I've heard from a source that Hall and Lake will be ins this weekend.

Not 100% sure on the accuracy just being a messenger!

It wouldn't be hard to guess those 2 would come in. :)

Hall is a certainty, Lake is a good chance as well.

The AFL site lists Tom Hill as out with a foot injury for 8-10 weeks. Could this be an indication that we're intending to promote a rookie?

DOLL HOUSE!!!!

He deserves it more than any of them.
