Last Qtr showed how we can play, have been playing up until a fortnight ago and should be playing.. dumb decision by dempsey to play on considering he must have known there was little/no time left... a shot is better than nothing but it would have been a steal after allowing ourselves to get so far behind. Wish that fanatical effort had been there in the beginning..

Good: We only lost by four points. We almost tore the game away from Sydney. JOBE WATSON. We were able to get the ball inside 50 consistently.

Bad: We played awfully for three quarters. We wasted opportunities. We were ridiculously inaccurate. We should be 10-1.

Tough loss - think I would rather have lost by 10 goals.

Makes me think they we aren't in a form slump, just need to improve our goal kicking.

We played well everywhere apart from in front of goal

The way Sydney were getting numbers to the ball for the first three quarters made it difficult for them to sustain their intensity. The Weapon's work on our fitness shone in the 4th.

Moving Hurley to the backline where he could actually get some damaging touches and bringing Myers in helped provide some spark as well. Hopefully tonight was the mental arse-kicking some of the players needed. Pity we now have the break... hopefully they won't forget this half of footy for a while.

Also, Alwyn Davey, I apologise for the massive dis I gave before the season started. Got it wrong.

Jobe is surely leading the Brownlow now. That man is an absolute beast of a player.

Not having a go at Dempsey but too many times tonight, our boys just did not want to go back and take a shot. Gus is usually very solid with a set shot and even he on his right side turned and snapped into the post. Not good enough.

June slump, apparently we have not won a match in June since 2009...anything in that or just coincidence?

What an impact David Myers had on that game. Amazing half of football and he was stiff to give the free kick away to Jude Bolton which stymied our finishing burst a bit in the last quarter.

Ryder, Watson, Howlett and Heppell were all brave.

Disappointing to get so close but it would have been grand larceny if we'd won it...

Also, Sydney is an impressive outfit (when they're not giving away large leads).

#### that pisses me off; more than the Dees game. That last quarter shows how complacent the team were at the ball the previous 3 quarters. Bloody annoying. Not good enough. Jobe is great but geez his token chases are a poor example. When it's your turn to go, ####ing go! Same with Hurley, needs to lift his defensive game a truckload. Thought he was damn lazy for most of it.

The goal kicking was a factor, huge factor, but so too was the ball watching and half-arsed efforts.

So disappointed right now. What a waste of an opportunity.

 

[Knight Ryders]

In the light of the day, I think we learnt an enormous amount tonight.

• Ryder excels at #1 ruck. Pantsed the Canuck and forced the Mumford change.
• Myers can replace Lonergan in the midfield and has more strings to his bow. Best half of footy from Dave since drafted. Pumped about that.
• Watson is 3rd best footballer in the comp, absolute gun. I love this man nearly as much as Jim.
• Sorely missing Hibberd, will be a welcomed return.
• There is a big hole with Gumbleton #3 on it.
• Crameri will appreciate the break, looks so sore. Not nearly as effective as 1st or 2nd forward.
• Hurley is out of form, play him back to get some touch.
• Letting a man play loose in the opposition backline worked against Carlton. Now TRB, get over it and move on.
• Heppell needs to play higher with Zaka out, need class into the forward line.
• Bombing it deep is not the game plan, just poor play.
• Reimers surely can get a gig on the wing. We need some silk and an outside player
• Melksham can be developed as a half back. Still making ****-ups, but looks more settled behind the ball.

hope you guys don't mind me but wanted to say terrific final quarter from your boys was stirring stuff and I know you didn't get the win and it always hurts to lose by less than a kick (trust me I know this year ) but to kick 9 goals in a quarter is a serious achievement against a team that prides themselves on defense and they simply had no answer to the constant pressure and manic run.

Had you guys perhaps started the run 3 minutes into the quarter instead of 8 or so then maybe it would have been a different outcome but great effort none the less.

Def worth going solo with Ryder for some games and dropping T Bell. Ryder just has such a massive influence when hes in there. Really had a lot of campaigner (the c word - lol swear filter) about him when he went into the middle and was instrumental in leading the comeback.

wouldn't worry mate because the teams below and around you are starting to drop matches as well.

Tough run home though and we don't travel well...
