Autopsy Round 13, 2026: Hawks get leashed

Who on our list is genuinely tough? We have so many mentally weak footballers who love to crack on when the game is on our terms but go missing when it gets tough. It is just not good enough.

Newcome, Watson, Impey, Day, Nash, Barrass, Battle. Lots.

But that doesn't change the fact that we got sucked in by the dogs. We lost focus and that played into their hands. Stupid football and weak leadership.

A lot of talk about our forward line, however the injury to Lewis was a massive issue for us. His presentation through the arcs was missed greatly.

He straightens us up. He was clearly hampered and it cost us.

The season has taught us, that our leads mean very little. We lack that mental strength to move away and create a buffer.

Lack of killer instinct is a huge issue for me, as we simply dont have it

Amon really stood out tonight in terms of avoiding all physical contact, not good enough from a senior player.

I dont think he stood out tonight. He has done it all year. He has hidden behing big metres gained but his actual usefulness has been poor or very poor.

Impey is literally 10 times as impactful.

Sammy’s presser will be interesting …

Expect he will be ever so slightly fuming

Disagree we could make it to a GF, especially if we address our Inaccurate kicking at goal and our double ruck situation.
Hmmm...but what worries me from tonight...if we made a Grand final the Opposition would push us in the chest, and we'd all fall over crying. Yeah, i said it.

OK an over reaction...I'm very flat with our 2nd half.

Worst game i have seen him play i reckon.

Ball use was terrible, but did well to provide an option in transition, so got plenty of the ball. However for an outside player, nearly 50% of your disposals not being deemed 'effective' definitely speaks to a very poor game. Especially bad in the second half when we desperately needed clean ball coming inside 50.

Also not sure what we do with Weddle once Barrass returns. He looks good as a defender but he still looks lost with ball in hand, kicking still poor. Think we have to find a way to keep him down back.

should have been a 5-10 goal win, instead we lose by a goal

Inside 50s were not great, Lewis dropped a dozen marks, goal kicking from 20m i think 4-5 were missed, Hardwick couldnt get a shot on goal, Sicily allowing his tag to live in his head rent free opening up the dogs forward line, he was too busy trying to wrestle with his boyfriend, instead of intercept marking ect, Ginnivan is in horrid form, Perez giving away too many dumb frees, all these little issues become more important when you kick more points than dogs have shots at goal....

This is really encouraging to see. It means we are doing everything we should be doing to win these games but we arent finishing them. Whilst its frustrating, you'd much rather be in that scenario that pinching games you had no right to win.

Yes and no.

It’s been a tale told too many times this season.

Accuracy, oddly enough, matters. And if we cannot get this right, it doesn’t matter how good the rest of our game is, we will never use the advantages it reaps.

It’s a really worrying trend for me now.

Some of the melts here are pretty laughable.

We dominated the game but failed to capitalise which is absolutely frustrating but saying that we "didn't turn up to play", "disgusting effort" or "not a serious football team" is just plain wrong and frankly stupid.
It's all from accounts who don't post here regularly. Seen so many new usernames in this thread that I haven't seen before.

The only words I have to make sense of the second half is we got sucked into the niggle. It was the only way the dogs were going to beat us. It succeeded. It started with Sicily and went on from there. The kicking for goal was a by product of them getting in our heads and destabilising our game. Particularly the third quarter.
Parts of the team need to just grow up and be a mature group to win a flag.

Easy to get sucked in to the niggle when the captain could pick a fight with his own shadow.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the longer tenured skipper being played forward if it allows Weddle and Scrimshaw to play back.

Would get rid of the offensive tag the oppo put on him and he’s a crafty forward that can kick straight.

Don’t underestimate how much the effective tag does to give the opposition team some momentum.

He just isn't a good forward, an elite defender but bog average forward. He needs to work through the tags, not run from them.

Mid team playing like a mid team. We are only shocked coz we were 4 goals up after some magic from Wiz
This 100% - wiz has been fantastic.

We’re a good side and every chance of winning another 5 or 6 games to makes finals but we’re not serious contenders this year - we’re in the top 6-10 mix. Enjoy the wins.

Accuracy has been a problem all yearf or us. Hawks are the 5th most innacurate side in the comp atm (50.7%) If you take out gunston we are the 3rd most innacurate (48.5%) behind only the eagles and the blues.

Mitchell looks like he has come back from a funeral.

Guttered!

-Scoreboard ascendancy the issue.
-Says we played some of our best footy in the second quarter
-polish in front of goal an issue
-forced forward half stoppages against us. Kicking 5 goals a concern
-missed opportunity heading into the bye. We had chances to win and couldn’t take them. Blaming execution and goal kicking. Disappointing night.
-felt sis was fantastic
-couldn’t find a way to score. Doesn’t feel midfield depth was an issue. Hence Watson not played there
-we are not the best side in it, but believes we can improve.

General feel is he feels we were ok, but not off. He felt our effort was good and he was proud of the boys.

On paper we are good, however the reality is we have to be able to perform consistently and we don’t.

He doesn’t know re Lewis. However it doesn’t seem anyone will miss.

Ps the above is the press conference 🤣

Has a knack for taking marks and kicking straight.

Two things that would have been handy this evening. And we are blessed for defenders.

May be something to think about. We might have to have something different if we want to take the next step.

Don’t really want to lose Weddle or BMac out of that back 50.
