Quite a few calls for WHE to play back, but odd just after one of his best games, as a forward.
Yep.

WHE is actually in career best form as a forward. It’s not just last week. He’s fast turning into somebody we can’t afford to swing around any more.

Reef is an emergency and surely won't get a game unless Markov is out.
I'd rather they let Reef play, because it just means Reef will be the carry over and wont play vfl, and then the bye next week, so no games for another 2 weeks. Just when he was finding some good form.

Larkey said something similar yesterday on triple m

Look, you guys are the reigning premiers and we are games clear last on the ladder, so in theory talk of a win for north sounds silly

BUT - some people like to focus on the the reasons for hope. I am one of those people and strangely go to the game confident of at least a competitive performance

- injuries: you guys have been decimated. If we had your injury list I’d say we’d just forfeit. It’s unbelievable how you have won games considering the players missing
  • de goey always kills us
  • miocheck is the type of player we’ve struggled to contain - though our backline is getting much better week on week
  • Mitchell, Elliot, pendles, etc it’s a shocking list

We, on the other hand have a strangely healthy list apart from long termers

- bye vs no bye

It wasn’t a surprise to me we played well last week. Yes, we only just beat west coast, but the reason it was close was more to do with us not knowing how to win. We were 33 points up 5 mins into the last which reflected the game. The bye was much needed and the results showed.

Despite an easy win against the dees, how also looked like they needed the bye, I think the Collingwood players would be looking forward to a week off particularly given the aforementioned injury run.

- marvel: we play better at marvel, you play worse

- historically good match up: just seems as crap as we’ve been the last 4 years, we’ve played well against the pies most times. LDU and larkey in particular have had good returns, both are getting into good form

All in all, a win is probably too much to ask for given if we do manage to get into a winning position, you’ll be confident of coming back and winning and we’ll be confident of shitting the bed and grasping a loss from the jaws of victory. But a non competitive performance will be a real kick in the guts.
Comments by Larkey are both perceptive and honest.
He compliments us, while at the same time analysing why NM actually are in with a chance to come close, if not win.
Very glad that he made this candid analysis. It will not be lost on our magnificent coaches, who will be formulating right now our plan of attack for this game.
However, his suggestion that our team will grow complacent/lazy because they are hanging out for the bye is just inconsistent with all the empirical evidence. Our team does not approach any game lackadaisically. In 2024, just as much as in 2023, we are the real deal. Mentally set up for every game.

Oleg was never going to be picked this week injury or not, for some reason he’s lost all form from 2023. It’s a shame because he really is a spark in our team.

It’s TJ time, not going to hope for a lot as he’s still a tall skinny kid but he does show a hell of a lot of promise and is going to be very good player. I hope he plays on one of the Norf kids just to make it a bit easier for him, Curtis or someone like that.
Except he was picked 🤔

Leggy was selected. If he doesn't play it's due to his back spasm/strain.

100% agree. The way the team plays for each other and the coaches and the supporters is something to be proud of.

One side of my family are all Collingwood so I’m one of those rare people that neither loves nor hates Collingwood. My dad (who is Collingwood) is probably past talking about anything deeper than wins or losses these days, but I chat with my uncle regularly about footy and Collingwood. And to paraphrase him he thinks the pies are just a great team, with massive holes in the list that get covered by a team first approach by all that play for the jumper.

I heard your recruiter pre draft talk about the clubs philosophy to drafting and it wasn’t “who is the best/most talented player” it was who will be able to play the Collingwood way. And again this last week I heard McRae say he’s not that concerned about kicking efficiency etc, but on other team first things.

Something to be proud of I think.

I hope that clarko can instil that in the young roos eventually

Love listening to Larkey whenever he talks to the media.

Would love him even more in b&w 😉 😆

Incredible to think you can pick up a guy like that at 70 odd in the draft.

I actually think he’d be best as a second kpf. A genuine strong bollocking KPF that can take a contested mark inside 50 would be transformative for my side. They don’t grow on trees I guess.

Great post.

Just on this….what do you think “the clarko way” is?
What is the “north way”?

I’m not sure I see an identity. But I’m not close enough.

Agreed. Markov attended someone's wedding the week before? This season is not the sort that lends itself to taking breaks from footy. Markov would be wanting to secure a spot before the injured players start filtering back. If Reef could get a game when more players were available, he surely deserves one now. He and Kreuger would be a new combination to watch up forward. Gives us more options with team structure too.

Bro... just vomited in my mouth. Every time I make pizza before a game, and don't go to the game I have brought tickets to, we get done. Especially games at docklands. So, I'll be there on Sunday, especially given its north.

That game was the last time I've seen North competitive in any facet, and I don't plan on seeing that again for a while. Let's just slaughter them and then we can get to the bye with blokes come back.

Phaaarrrrkkk... why did you have to mention that North game for? Vivid PTSD. Combine that with the freo loss, then the GWS nailbiter, how much heart break can one season bring?

Worst I’ve ever seen us play live, even worse than that 2011 blowout against Geelong when we weren’t trying. Even Levi Greenwood took short steps that night FFS.
