Will be great to see Milne get a game. Seems like an exciting prospect

Hopefully Ellis can come in and show us that he is in our 22. He has been crippled by injury and in a perfect world I think he would have waited a few more weeks but we're scraping the bottom of the barrel now and we need guys like him to step up

While I'm not over the moon about Morton playing. I hope (if he does play) that he grabs his chance by the balls and really pushes for future selection. Got nothing against him and wish him all the best:thumbsu:

I'm disappointed with the Ellis selection. I thought the plan was to give him extended time at Box Hill to get him right properly. Are we just rushing him in un-necessarily?? I'd prefer to let him get right first then bring him in personally. Maybe give a guy like Schneider a go.

I'm a bit wary that maybe he's being rushed in too quickly too, particularly when the perceived problem at Hawthorn is that he pushes himself into performances his body isn't ready for. You have to hope this isn't the case again.

His style really fits the Hawthorn gameplan of uncontested marking and accurate chip kicks. The pass mark for him will be 20 possessions.

Our biggest worry apart from Brown is Mcgrath, he has been the leading goal kicker this year...

This game we wont lose regardless if Buddy plays or not, im happy with the Milne and Ellis selections, not confident about Morton though...

Can not afford to drop this game. If Buddy does not play I can not see where the goals are going to come from. I am on the jab him band wagon.

If he is to be rested someone is going to have to step up and kick a bag, lets hope Hale can take a couple of grabs and convert.

Did you not see us play against the scum without buddy a few weeks ago?

Agree. He needs to make an impact on the game not just fill in the numbers. I would have preferred him to stay at Box Hill until after the Bye to really put some quality games together there first. Last thing we want to do is put him in prematurely and see him injured all over again.

 Am I on the Tigers board?

Congrats to Riley first AFL game ... And great to see Ellis rewarded for a fantastic game for Box Hill last weekend ... Even though it was vfl level it was great to beat the pies with an undermanned bhhawks side ... And Ellis was a major factor in the last gasp win.

Hawks should win this one but if Brown has a day out it will not be straight forward.

GO HAWKS !!

What if buddy misses and we click in the forward line and play like we did against the bombers ?
would you drop buddy for a couple weeks to decide if he wants to play footy ?

In absolute seriousness, this is the stupidest thing I have ever read on this site. Apologies if it was tongue in cheek.

We are a 5 to 7 goal poorer team without Lance Franklin. Sure the forward line clicked against the Bombers without him, but they were disgraceful that day.

When he's not playing, it not only takes away a 20 possession, 4 goal a game player ( he is the only one who is capable of those numbers in the comp ), but it also allows the opposition to be more creative in their back half. Even if Lance Franklin is having one of his "off" days, the opposition put an extraordinary amount of time and energy into him defensively, it often takes away the defenders offensive side of their game. If you watch closely, defenders are so preoccupied with shutting down the number one forward in the game, it takes away their ability to run and carry out of the back half.

When Franklin isn't there we will have problems agaisnt the better sides. Thankfully, Brisbane, Freo & Essendon are games he has missed this year. If he had of missed the West Coast game, or the Sydney game, they might have been different results.

I get the feeling we might struggle a bit this week, because of so many changes to the side and key personnel missing. I wouldn't be surprised to see us challenged heavily for most of the game and grind out a single figure margin win, or even go down in a tight one.

The VFL website has not been updated with this weeks teams yet and its 9:17pm. I usually check that site every Thursday night and its always up by about 7:30pm. So tonight, of all nights, it still hasnt been updated. Strange. Would be interested to know who the travelling emergency is as I think that would give you a good idea as to whether Buddy boy will play or not.

Maybe its ducks and drakes, maybe the person who manages and runs the vfl website has a birthday tonight or something but this is odd :D

Anyway we shall see who gets off the plane in Launceston tomorrow. I dont think the club would drag Buddy down to Launceston if he wasnt playing, nor do I think they would bring Morton down and have him miss a week of box hill if there wasnt a late change going to happen.

Yeah it was meant tounge in cheek !
I wasnt saying we should drop buddy , just puting the question out there, as stupid as it may sound some times he is a liability not an asset !
I dont agree with " oh he was tagg teamed , or the umps hate him "
its forum for opinions, you have yours I have mine

Whether buddy plays or not our blokes should be as hungry as hell to avenge last weeks loss. We dont want to be going into the bye with 2 loses plus most teams havnt performed that well the week after the bye then freo over here in the west the week after. So this is a must win game no excuses.:)

Why?
Obviously Franklin will never be dropped, and can provide the team with goals and plenty of excitement that seems to ignite other players. But what if we do function better as a team on Saturday if Franklin is out? I don't think it is a negative towards Franklin, rather the team may be too Buddy focused?

And when he returns we are less focused on using him all the time and we actually play better?

I don't think that would actually happen, I think he has such a big presence that it would be impossible to break the habit of kicking to him when it is 3 defenders v Buddy.

I believe the comment was "would you drop buddy for a couple of weeks to decide if he wants to play footy". You seem to be saying something entirely different.

i'm sick of all the people putting Ellis down and spruiking guys like Schneider and Wanganeen, Ellis has been riddled with injury and has just completed a solid 4 week training block. I watched the Boxhill game and Ellis, whilst looking a tad rusty to begin with, was fantastic in the second half and was clearly a class above, he will be a huge asset to the side but needs games at senior level before finals. Wanganeen and Schneider have not shown much and need time at VFL level to get their bodies right. Players have to earn their place in the team and Ellis has put in the hard yards on track and given the quality of his game on the weekend is the clear choice this week, be it a little earlier than perhaps in an ideal world.

Morton must be a big chance to play but lets hope buddy's ankle comes up, he did a few good things on the weekend but went missing a bit. took a couple of solid marks though.

Tell you what , why dont we wait untill he is out and we function better and win big , then play the dees with him playing and the forward line is in disaray again !!
I know it was only against the scum but the f50 entries looked confident with the players goin forward know marks wont be dropped or free kicks paid against , then agaisnt the pies with the best player in the comp the forward line looked unfunctional !
Maybe play him in the midfield kicking to our small forwards I am sure they would love it , that might get his confidence up and mature him as a player but at this stage he does too many stupid things up forward

How he gets picked every week is a mystery. Maybe he might still be worth something in trade week.

A late change is looking likely. But i don't think it will be Morton. I think with Aurora Stadium being a long ground. We could select Ladson for some pace. Plus he's due to play.

Dont agree. There is no Roughie there and without Buddy you have no talls in that forward line. You need atleast one tall in a forward line for it to function.

There is enough pace without Ladson..
