I don't think you can lay blame on a single one of those players except maybe Lloyd calling for that pass.

Vickery passing the ball. Cotchin panic kick forward to them. B.Ellis panic kick forward to them. Rance kick across goal. Taylor Hunt x 1000 **** ups. Grigg handballing instead of eating up time and taking the shot.

Edit: And K-Mac not passing the ball because he wasn't born with eyes or ears apparently. :p
Never blamed them specifically but the lack of experience might have meant they're not in the position they should be structurally to stop the Pies constantly driving the ball in. As I said they will learn from it and will be better for it.

Biggest problem and always has been is our foot skills and tackling
I really think our recruitment let the ball drop with this when it came to retreads.

Do you think dropping Chaplin was a mistake? He cops a lot of criticism but his kicking is usually not bad.

Yep big mistake, you can't cram 200 games of experience into 46 games. Having said that I think we need Astbury in the side to take over at some stage.
Depends on what the goals for the year are.

Nah, His replacement (Astbury) has been as good, if not better than Chaplin as a defender. While all the footy review shows are saying we lost it in the last five minutes it was really lost in the second quarter when we couldn't capitalise on so many set shots. Giving up 9 extra fee kicks hurts. 12 less tackles hurts. This game wasn't lost by one player or one play. I think most players and definitely the whole coaching staff have to take the blame here. The players couldn't settle and/or didn't have confidence in themselves to do the smart thing. The coaches should be able to give that confidence and teach the right thing to do. Unfortunately, it happens time and time again (as highlighted on the package shown on AFL 360 - Gold Coast 2012, Fremantle 2012 & 2015, Collingwood 2016). In fact, since 2010 we have lost 11 games by a goal or less (including 2 draws) out of 15 that were won by a goal or less. Basically, by the stats we can expect to see two games a year lost in this way

Astbury was a revelation in 2014 then got injured, he's just recapturing that form again.

This is Chaplin

I am not sure about only a one on one comparision. But Chaplin has a lot more experience and the back line performed better overall with him and Batchelor in it.

But we do need a succession plan. Just not convinced cold turkey is the best way to do it.

Oops I meant to reply to the The Gun:confused:

Just read thru the last few pages and one comment struck a chord. To still be playing 7 blokes with under 30 games even with the injuries we have after 7 yrs says two things to me.
Either recruiting has been poor, or Development has been poor most likely it is both.
Ellis Menadue Lambert & Short are in their second seasons, McIntosh had injuries for his first 3 seasons, Lloyd is 3rd year and Townsend came from the Giants where he was down the pecking order. With Deledio Edwards Conca & Yarran fit we'd have no more than 3 of them playing, which would be the first 3 above.

For us to get better these guys are part of the next batch that needs to step up and become solid contributors otherwise it's back to guys like Hunt & Morris.

Did anyone see David King going through the last minute and a bit of the game? Geez that was pathetic, how can we have so many players who have no idea what they should be doing at that stage of a game

Richmond players take full responsibility for Round 2 loss to Collingwood in Monday review meeting.

But Astbury said on Friday that they were not sure what to do.

So did they know? Or is something happening here?

I'm tired of reading and hearing from players / coaches and the like , they just say the same stuff that's been blurted out over the last 3 years unfortunatley and same result keeps happening , my few example are as follows .

# Gold Coast game we were told by coaches and players things like that will be worked on and won't happen again

# round 20 v Blues , 2013, 36 points up we lose , coach said we need to learn from it etc etc , players said thry take responsibility blah blah blah

# 3 weeks later EF Richmond 42 points up and lose

# port EF we get pumped players and coach said wasn't good enough performance and they would do hard pre season make amends etc

# 2015 lose another EF, this time to North .

Oh and I forgot the freo debacle at the G , last year :)

I know we have a few injured etc but we needed to start the season well and while 1-1 isn't a disaster being 2-0 with our games to come would have been a lot more handy .
I just don't understand how we've had another pre season with these same core of players and we are still dishing up crap in the first two rounds yet again . Mind boggling .
