There has been several arguements about who should be playing this week. It is a very good spot we find ourselfs in. Can people please nominate their lineups for this weekend. It would be very interesting to see the varying opinions.

Mine is as follows:

Backs: Hunt, Scarlett, Milburn

Half Backs: Enright, EGAN, D.Johnson

Centres: Corey, Ling, Rooke

Half Forwards: G.Ablett, Playfair, S.Johnson

Forwards: Chapman, Ottens, N.Ablett

Foll: King, Bartel, Mooney

Int: Riccardi, Blake, Tenace, Brynes

No change. Blake must stay in the side until we play the bulldogs in round 4. That will be the first game that Mooney won't be required in defence and he will be able to relieve King in the ruck. Put the pressure on the whole club to perform. Let the guys coming back ( s johnson, riccardi, wocjinski, kingsley, n ablett ) find consistent form in the 2's.

Bomber said at the end of his media conference that KK would be back in again this week. He sarcastically said that he has had 5 weeks to get over a grade one hamstring tear.

I would imagine KK, S.Johnson in for Gardiner and Mackie.

Riccardi is also a big chance according to Bomber. I would perhaps leave Nath in the two's for another week to consolidate his form.

They are great problems to have and Mackie and Gardiner would be stiff to get dropped. But this is the way it should be. Guys should be forcing their way into the side, not going in because they are the next tall in line, and because someone has gotten injured.

I am also with Jack Packenham, Blake must stay in as long as possible. Hoenstly if King and Ottens play 60 - 80% of games and we keep winning, and it allows them to be playing 100% from Round 15 to the GF, then that is what we should do. Blake will also continue to grow from the experience of being in the side.

As I said in another thread, Gardiner will not be dropped after playing a good game when he has been retained after playing dozens of bad games. Not that this is what I'd do if I were coaching. But Bomber loves him.

Steve Johnson and Kingsley in for Mackie and Slade (Slade EXTREMELY stiff).

Gardiner is usually retained when we have injury troubles. It is not too often that we basically have a full list to choose from.

Gardiner and Mackie will be the first to go and posibly Slade if Ricco is ready.

When was the last time Gardiner was dropped? Mark my words, he'll play this week.

After my comments last week saying that both Ottens and King wouldn't play, I'm the last person that should be making comments at the selection table...

BUT

I think the days of Riccardi being a walk up start into this team are over. The competition for positions is far too tough now.
There are too many good young players.
Of course, we will get a heap of injuries during the year so he will get game time, but he's no longer in the best 22

pretty good, i do however doubt N.Ablett, s.Johnson and Ricco will all come back in, as no one to drop.
I dont think nablett will play, but kent will.

For the backline i think we are a tall short. i would say
Milburn fwd, mooney back and either chappy of Ablett in the guts.

I think Slade will stay, with ricco missing out
Kent will come straight in probably for Mackie
Johnson maybe in, i would think for gardiner, but knowning selecetion they love charlie, so makes it hard to drop someone.

For future kelly might find it hard to get back. and that is a great thing for the club, but bad for him.

Did you not watch the Sydney semi final, he was our best player.

Enright may have passed him as a starter in the midfield for the moment but he is still an automatic selection.

FWIW our best 22, post pre-season, IMO:

B: Hunt Scarlett DJ
HB: Milburn Egan Harley
C: Enright Bartel Corey
HF: Chapman Playfair SJ
F: GAJ Kingsley Ottens
R: King Ling Mooney

I: Kelly Rooke Tenace XXXXX

That last position is up for grabs by at least a dozen players. Wojcinski, Riccardi, Byrnes, N.Ablett, Mackie, Prismall, Callan, Slade, Blake, Stokes, Gardiner, heck even Varcoe might have a shot at it when he gets to full fitness.

Obviously match ups will dictate starting positions. DJ I prefer to Rooke as a small/medium defender while Rooke will play as a tagger in the midfield so he will start for someone, good luck on deciding who Bomber.

I would think changes would be kept to a minimum this week. Why change a winning formula?

IN: Kent Kingsley
OUT: Andrew Mackie

Give Nathan and SJ another run in the VFL.

The more I think about it the more likely I think this is spot on.

I think it has a lot to do with what we want from Mooney. If Bomber is happy to run him in the ruck then Blake will go. Not sold on Blake but he has been serviceable and more to the point, allowed us to ease Otto & Kingy into the side. Don't forget that Otto only played forward and didn't go into the centre to ruck at all and I wouldn't think that would change just yet either so it depends on whether Moons is right to ruck for half the match.

By the way, a big :thumbsu: to Captain King for throwing his weight (and a jumper punch or two) around when GAJ was knocked down after getting rid of the pill. Stood up for his chargers like a captain (especially a 202cm captain) should. Great to see.

I think Chuck did enough (18 possies, several grabs and 2 goals) to warrant another gig but stranger things have happened. Don't think you want to make too many changes to a 13 goal winning side.

I think Mackie might head back to the two's for Kent and Dog would be the likely candidate if Blake is dropped.

Winning form is good form. Can't see you making any changes after that win, except for specific match ups.

If it's a dry day, expect North to field a very tall team and forward line.

Rucks - McIntosh & Hale (both 202-203cms) and will push forward.

Tall Forwards - Thompson, Brown/Petrie alternating between CHB/CHF and Sav Rocca a fair chance of coming back into the side (who would be the only possible new face for North this week). All 6'4" + and 100kgs+

If our midfield of Simpson, Harris, Harvey, Rawlings, Wells, Grant hold there own and get enough clearances - you will need some tall timber & strong bodies in defence.

Agreed! He has to really work for his spot now.

I am amazed at how quickly people forget players.

I know we won by 13 goals but for people to be suggesting that Kelly, Riccardi, Kingsley and SJ aren't automatic inclusions. Please.

Yes it is hard to drop players who have played well, and yes we don't want to carry too many players that are underdone, but you can't leave these blokes out. It also make the likes of Gardiner, Mackie and Slade realise what it takes to make it at the elite level, and that is consistency.

Bomber loves SJ - He will play.
KK will be back because he has been our most prominent forward.
Rico may come back through the two's but it is unlikely.

Yes the win was great. Perhaps one of the best team efforts we have seen for sometime. But lets not forget about the guys who have performed week in week out for long periods of time.

All those that want Charlie in again this week. Prepare to have your heart broken.

Height won’t be a problem for us. We have King, Blake and maybe Ottens in the ruck. We have Scarlett, Egan and Mooney (if required) as tall defenders. Playfair and Kingsley (along with Ottens) will be our tall forwards. I imagine Brown/Petrie and Hay will take them. Who will be your third if one of Brown/Petrie goes forward?

Midfield will be where it is won. We have Ling, Bartel, Corey, Ablett, Enright, Byrnes and Tenace rotating through. David Johnson will tag Wells and we’ll back the rest to beat yours.

Should be a good game.

I've been a Charlie knocker for a long time but I'm telling you now, he won't be dropped after playing a good game.

Exactly. Well said. Remember the game against Melbourne before Otto went down with the groin. We had KK, Playfair, Otto and Nath all in the same forward line. At one stage they had Whelan on Nath. If it is going to be dry, and relatively wind free, expect us to go tall in the forward line this year.

With Big H kicking sausage rolls over the shoulder and getting front and square who needs Lil Gaz and Chappy. Only joking

I'm with you on this one Smelly. Slade should stay in the team instead of bringing back Ricco. Maybe the best bet for Ricco is introduce him to the team towards the latter stages of the year when the younger lads might be starting to get fatigued. Heaps impressed with Slade at the moment, he dropped into the hole twice in front of Jonno Brown which takes a heap of courage. Rookey also has plenty of guts..it's all good so far touch wood!

Nathan will play this week - Kent will be in as he's had an extra week already according to the 21 day rule for hammies.

With Ottens being eased back I think you'll find that Thompson will still want to stretch the Kangas for height in our fwd line. Nathan will be the perfect bloke to lead from the square and Kent out further.

In: Nathan - Kingsley - Johnson
Out: Mackie - Gardiner - Blake

Blake has gone ok but I think King will get a chop out from Mooney due to Kangas going tall in fwd line apart from Sav and Thompson who will get Scarlo and Egan. Geelong will need to focus in on Harvey and Grant if they want to restrict their scoring options.

Gee I like our set up down fwd - consider the following

HF: Ablett Playfair S.Johnson
FF: Kingsley Ottens Chapman

Nathan off the bench - Bartel resting fwd - Kelly still to come in - Milburn floating down - Ricco to come back - ......I like it alot

Spot on.

Has anyone considered not making any changes this week? (barring of course, any fresh injuries or must-changes for match-up purposes) I really don't see the rush to bring everyone back in.

The named trio of Dog, Ricco, and Kent are still lacking that match-fitness, and we're in a luxurious position to give them that make-up time without losing out on it too much. Getting both Ottens and King through in one piece shouldn't mean we should, even if we can, open the floodgates on the rest of our returning injured.

Playing 3 suspect guys in the same forward line is a risk we shouldn't be taking if we needn't have to. And we needn't.

I reckon you're on the money with that. We missed Kingsley on Saturday, he just reads the play so well and creates opportunities. Mackie is the same, but doesn't have the same size or strength as Kent.

I'm sure the Krew will be out in force to see the great man's first full game since his 9 goal haul :p
