Good news, at lest Peel won't make any ground on Swans this weekend.
There are 2 important matches this round, Sharks v Demons and Falcons v Swans. Of course, I could always hope for an upset by East Perth, who played a cracking match last week.
Lets go straight to the game of the round, West Perth v Swans. Should again be a belter of a match with the goslings up against the more mature Falcons, who now seem to have their tail up again. Swans can't let Chambers and Pearce wield the influence they had in the last game in the rain. Bradley playing well for Freo keeps him out and eases 1 headache. No Warnock, another relief, but Kuenen showed he's a class act last week, given more time on the field. Look out for the highly rated Stephen Hill and the dynamic Wolfenden, Garlett, Yarran and Naita. I've got everything crossed that Swans can bounce back and games between these 2 teams over the past few years have been close but it will come down to which team can outrun, outlast the other and with a few more experienced bodies in the Falcons camp I lean that way, just!
East Freo v Perth - it's the chance for East Freo to leap frog Perth, or for Perth to stop the slide and dig in for another chance at the top 4 berth that was their's for most of the year. From all reports Perth played better last week and they should retain Butler, but it's at Moss Street and ask any Perth supporter how they go there (hell, everyone hates the oval don't they?). Can Siekerka, K-T, Butler, Jones, Young outrun Anthony, Green, Houlihan (if in), Dunn, Polce, Adams and co? Can Connelly and Thornton produce the goods or will McCarrey, Leslie and co be able to dominate. Would have to say the home side, just.
Claremont v Subi - who's going to stop the Subiaco juggernaut? You wouldn't think the tiges but they went alright against them last time with a vastly inexperienced side and they've got a bit more confidence now. Still, who's going to match Read, Chick, Cockie for hardness and Pickett, Horsley, Broadhurst and Keevers for hard running and skill. Then there's one B Smith to stop from the goalsquare and Claremont are fast running out of defenders because they're being called up for the eagles. On the other hand can Parker and Rumble stop Richardson? Could at least be some interest in the spearheads shootout. Should be a lions victory in a relative canter.
South Freo v East Perth. Oh dear East Perth fans, Murphy looks like he's in and he normally kicks 3-4 on a bad day.
The only question remaining for me is can the Royals actually back a good match up with another one? They haven't been able to all year so can they on Saturday? Played well as a team last week, after being challenged by Peel early, only to blow them away. Meanwhile Souths were sunning it up in Newman, playing a toughish match against the goslings. The key to stopping Souths is to stop their run and carry, the likes of O'Keefe (my new favourite), Hams x 2, Phillips, McGrath, Siegert and Black (if in). Their half back line provides a lot of the impetus and then with Murphy seemingly straightening them up front. Noakes has been a willing worker for EP late in the season up front, aided by crumbers is the main avenue to EPs goal. Can't see the Royals getting up in this one, although I really want them to!
Looks like fine weather for the weekend so let's hope your team can get a win on the board.
