Autopsy Round 23 vs Essendon

If last night doesn’t convince the club we need another ready made ruckman nothing will. Bringing Frampton in allowed Westy to play his more natural game, spending only a little time in the ruck. He finished with a lazy five goals, two more than the next highest. Paddy looked dangerous up forward. Kicked one goal but could have easily finished with more.

I’m in the camp who’s keen to get Lycett

Ken blames the team for not doing it for long enough and all the usual dribble that comes out of his mouth but never once blames coaches, game plan or selections.
He makes me want to puke.
Yep. Never heard a coach so unaccoubtable ever. Hes a fraud and has fooled the club hierarchy. The thing that bugs me so much is the repeat mistake. First we dont have the guts to let Williams go and renew his contract and then we repeat the process with Ken. One time was too much but twice leaves me in despair.

We all knew this. Why didn't Ken.

The game was lost in the first quarter. We came out and looked like we didn't want to be there. We looked dispirited and broken. Understandable on some level, most of us were feeling the same way. Obviously they got a bake at quarter time and decided they didn't want to finish the season losing by 100+ so things improved from there.

Thought our defence was really poor. Hombsch was terrible. Pittard comical at times. Howard had some good moments and some terrible ones. Lienert had his worst game. The usual team defence was nowhere to be seen. They weren't working as a team to cover each other off and support each other in the way they normally do. It looked like a group that had no more left to give mentally.

Plenty of others who had dirty nights. Watts couldn't get near it. His finish to the season has been disappointing. SPP's form has completely collapsed over the last month or two. S.Gray offered nothing. Neade was a joke but I won't hang him on it because he tries hard, he just isn't good enough to be on an AFL list.

Our best 4 were Westhoff, Polec, Wingard and Boak. No surprises there as they have probably been our 4 most consistent performers this year.

All told, an uninspiring finish to an uninspiring season. The fall out will be significant. What it looks like on the other side is anyone's guess.
Ryder was in our best 3 on impact imo. Agree with Westy and Polec. Wingard got a lot of it but like most of our midfielders I'm not sure what he did with it. Might be because I was so disinterested. Thought Robbie looked slow in the midfield which concerned me for next year. The fact we are likley to lose our quickest midfielder is very concerning.

He can still jump better than any ruck. He's massively injured and needs to get under the surgeons knife tomorrow. How did Billy go? My seats are behind the goals I was trying to look out for him. Didn't stand out.
Did ok. Took 4 contested marks, all good marks. If he'd kicked the 2 goals he missed it would have been a really good debut. Competed in the ruck. Haven't looked at his stats yet but I'm confident that had we played him earlier in the season, like many on here wanted, we would have made the 8.

Ken's presser in so many words knew what went wrong this year and looked forward to finding out why.
So you don't know and your the head coach. You want us to score more so why aren't we?
Do the right thing by the club the fans and our sponsors and resign.

Highlights:

Wingard injuring his ankle
Ryder winning every hitout in the second half and still every mid bar Gray was ineffective
Framptons general ruckwork/icing the game by letting Stringer jump over him in that center bounce

I have to say that really stood out to me as well. Ryder and even Frampton were giving out mids silver service but they were incapable of capitalising.

These midfielders can’t win a clearance without Ryder and can’t seem to win one with him. At some point we have to question this. Is the coach bad or perhaps the players just ordinary? Do we just overate Wines, Ebert, SPP, Boak, Motlop and Rockliff? (Haven’t included Gray and Wingard for obvious reasons.

We don’t have a system to win a clearance that’s why we didn’t take advantage of the Ruck stoppages.

Robbie is the only mid that moves at a stoppage and that’s why he is so good. The rest stand their so the opposition sweat on it and tackle.

It’s appaling. I still can’t believe Voss got extended. I don’t know what this is based on. It makes me very disappointed.

If Billy hadn't been pulled out of the magpies finals campaign last year we'd have won a premiership for Summo.
Ken said at the time it was to get him AFL ready for 2018. Ken your an incompetent arseh*le nup actually your a 1st class arseh*le.
Your gameplan and player management stinks and as for Voss and Lade jeez whats the point. Essendon no ruck after 1/2 time

Wonder if another members convention is planned for next year

This might be an unpopular one but on Frampton, to me he looks well undersized for Ruck and it showed in the centre square last night.

As a chop out for 20% of the game maybe, but he’ll need to develop his forward work a heap to hold a place considering Marshall, Dixon, Hoff, Watts (!) are well ahead of him there.

There were some encouraging signs and given he should of played 4-5more games this season, the failure here is we (and the coaches) haven’t got a big enough sample of his work to make an educated call.

When Wines is motivated he is good. Rockliff needs another year.

The rest I don't rate at all, but yeah, probably overrated by the majority.

It's more just the mix and the gameplan though. Wines can't take the ball and run with it, but there is nobody he can give off to who can do it either. It's just handball, tackle another stoppage.

(sneaks in)

Hoff = star. Immense.
No Dixon hurt structure up forward
Ryder with a full pre season should get over his niggly dicky ankle
Wingard - lively
Polec - can't let him go
Frampton - looks very capable. A keeper.
Still got plenty pieces of the puzzle - try to stay positive.

You do have Gray x2, Broadbent, Boak, Ebert, Hartlett, Rockliff all the wrong side of 28.
Might need to try to exchange for a few for those 22-25yo types. Defence needs work.

Suggestions = Thurlow, Kolodjashnij (either or both), Bugg, Jack Steele, Kelly (GWS), Blakely, Tucker, Parish
and apart from Kelly all wouldn't cost the earth trade wise.

Still my favourite Magpies as my cousin (Jeremy Clayton) won a Margarey.
Clayton was a wonderful player. If only we had his on field leadership. Parish impressed me heaps. Happy to take him but theres no way Bombers would let him go. No chance Kelly would come to Adelaide, most players wont. We generally get players that clubs are happy to trade.. Ryder was an exception coz of drug issue.

I'm not even upset as that game went exactly as I expected it.

As I posted yesterday in another thread most of the players checked out weeks ago and Hinkley is clueless about how to football.

I hope Westhoff wins our B&F as he is clearly one of the very few that actually gives a shit.

However I rocked up, I didn't stand or clap for NGI. I couldn't be bothered raising my scarf for NTUA, though I did sing but not with much gusto. During the game I found myself not clapping anything, in fact I don't remember any clapping whatsoever. From the first bounce the team looked like a side that had all their hope sapped last week and came out with nothing to play for, where as the Bombers were well and truly accepting of their fate and just wanted to win. And I think that malaise just rolled into the crowd. They didn't care and neither did I.
Yep, this was me except I didn't even sing NTUA. I've never been more disengaged at a football game. I've been to one Crows game at AO and enjoyed it more.

You left Aaron Francis off the list. If we package up S Gray, Neade, and Amon that should get it done.

Im not sure all those players are well ahead of him. He hasn't been given the same opportunity. 4 contested marks was very good. Needs to improve his play when he doesnt have the ball but its early days.

I went upstairs after the game and to the credit of the Port faithful there was a decent turnout. Maybe they thought there would be free donuts again. :D

Hinkley spoke and sounded as clueless as he did in the presser. The coaches will go away and look at the why things went wrong. Really? That's the best you can come up with? I am really over his We dont accept this at Port Adelaide schtick. Ken I dont think you really get Port Adelaide.

KT was there but didn't speak. Thought that was weak although I dont know if I had the stomach for more You're hurting we're hurting platitudes.

Boak at least turned up and spoke. You're hurting we're hurting. He is so likeable though. And I believe he is hurting and like a good captain he's not throwing the coach under a bus.

No sign of Good Times Kochie telling us it's unacceptable and you're hurting we're hurting.

Stop treating supporters like mushrooms and give us some honesty.

Charlie Dixon on crutches signing autographs was moving. He could rightfully be laid up in bed but he comes along and gives something back to supporters. 10 out of 10 will support again.
