When: Friday April 20, 7:50 PM

Where: Sydney Cricket Ground

So far this season:

Sydney (5th)
Eagles (86) defeated by Sydney (115)
Sydney (71) defeated by Port Adelaide (94)
Sydney (103) defeated GWS (87)
Bulldogs (79) defeated by Sydney (86)

Adelaide (9th)
Essendon (99) defeated Adelaide (87)
Adelaide (118) defeated Richmond (82)
St Kilda (55) defeated by Adelaide (104)
Adelaide (58) defeated by Collingwood (106)

Current Injury Lists:

Sydney Injuries*:

Sam Naismith - Knee - Season
Sam Reid - Quad - 8-10 weeks
Lewis Melican - Hamstring - 2 weeks
Jordan Foote - Turf Toe - Undetermined

*Difficult to tell as the Sydney link is broken, but this is what I know. No doubt you guys will let me know who else…

Adelaide Injuries:
Alex Keath - Ankle - 1-2 weeks
Sam Gibson - Hamstring - 2 weeks
Kyle Cheney - Hamstring - 2 weeks
Matt Crouch - Hamstring - 2 weeks
Brad Crouch - Groin Soreness - 5-6 weeks
Andrew McPherson - Groin Soreness - 5-6 weeks
Brodie Smith - Knee - Indefinite

*Eddie Betts injured his hamstring on Friday night and is unlikely to play. Also Sloane and Tex are rumoured to be playing with injuries (unable to confirm).

Last 5 Head to Head:

2017 - Rd 22 - Adelaide (80) v Sydney (83)
2016 - SF - Sydney (118) v Adelaide (82)
2016 - Rd 4 - Adelaide (113) v Sydney (103)
2015 - Rd 18 - Sydney (117) v Adelaide (65)
2014 - Rd 3 - Adelaide (71) v Sydney (134)

Last weeks performance:

Sydney: The Swans played the Doggies at Etihad with a closed roof. The Doggies initially played the style of hands off footy that so often brings the Swans undone. However, midway through the second, the swans lifted their intensity and the doggies never quite got their game plan back up and running. Buddy and Heeney were important, although Buddy lacked his recent accuracy in front of goals; the defence played well without reaching the heights; while Parker was excellent in the middle, JPK and Hanners were unseen (suspect that Hanners was doing a tagging/run with role but will need to watch the replay to be sure). Accuracy in front of goal was a stand out, field kicking accuracy was not.
The Swans will need the midfield to stand up to beat the Crows on Friday night, regardless of how many outs they have.

Adelaide: The Crows played the Pies at home and were soundly beaten by 7 goals on a heavy track. They were beaten at the contest; lost clearances, contested possessions and tackles. Their field kicking was risky and inaccurate, but their goal kicking was accurate. Although they came back late in the third, early in the fourth, it was too little, too late, and the Pies easily took back momentum to run the game out.

I'm not sure why they had such a poor showing given the way they played Richmond with a very similar team, but I am expecting them to bounce back with a vengeance.

Player match ups:

I'm not very good at this, but I'll have a go. You can all correct me if I'm wrong...

Hewett v Sloane: I'm expecting Hewett to be tagging Sloane and (hopefully) nullify his impact.
Rampe v Walker: I fully expect Rampe to win this battle, especially if Tex is underdone as rumoured.
Buddy v Talia: This should be great to watch! :D I think that Talia plays Buddy really well and is a fair player. Hoping Buddy comes out on top, but will be great to watch!!!!
Smith v ?????: With no Eddie, I have no idea who Smith will play:oops:
Sinclair v Jacobs: This will be a monumental test for Sinclair, and will then have a really good idea where he is at. Jacobs is mobile and impactful, and I am expecting him to win this contest easily. :(

Wrap up:

I am expecting this to be a hard fought contest and to be won in the middle. Although the Crows have an extra days break, I think this is cancelled out by the track they played on last week (heavy and wet). Kennedy (along with the rest of the midfield) needs to turn up for the Swans and have a high impact game, as the Crows will be looking to bounce back hard from last weeks game.

We used Heeney to tag Sloane last time without great success, Hewett should fare better on this occasion especially as Sloane still looks to be carrying an injury.

Not really related to the game but I wonder if we'd offer ROK a place at the club when he's done at the crows. Still a legend for the Swans wouldn't mind him being around. Although we don't want to go towards the Brisbane route either. If he has the goods then I hope we get him in.

We're averaging 25 shots at goal a game while conceding 27.5 shots at goal a game. In 3 of the 4 games our opposition has had more shots at goal, our accuracy has been very good (which is a nice change from our horrible inaccuracy throughout stages at last year)...however I wouldn't have thought we'd want to keep giving our opponents more looks at goal than ourselves and expecting to keep getting away with it. Especially coming up against Adelaide's forward line, regardless of their injuries.
Nice to be 3-1 but the defensive pressure through the middle of the ground does need to lift to get through the next month with a similar win/loss record. There were signs in the 2nd half against the dogs that our defenders were rediscovering their groove but need a bit help from the mids further up the ground.

Drop a flanker I reckon, definitely playing one too many imo. I'd prefer another KP player in but atleast a 3rd tall type or genuine mid or forward smaller type.

Ins:
Rohan (or Cameron if he's not ready)

Outs:
Newman

Cameron's form may be poor but we have to start grooming a replacement for Reid now.

Aliir can play back - Adelaide have a much taller forward line than the Bulldogs.

Hayward needs to find some consistency, but he's too much of an X-factor to leave out.

I thought Jack was involved in some key plays and his delivery into F50 was much better than others. He was was far from our worst.

I find it highly unlikely Rohan would be ready to return so soon, nor should the club expect him to.

Brilliant preview Kirksy :clapping:

I will be on the high seas for this game (only my second home game missed in 17 years) so when we get into Cairns (I refuse to pay for internet at sea) on Saturday morning, I'm hoping that we would have had a stunning victory, but I think the Crows will be this week's big media focus so I expect them to be pretty fired up so it could be a bit of a struggle.

Just so you know, there are still laws in international waters so whatever you are planning remember that :)

A fit Rohan should come into the team. I'm not overly impressed with him lately but his height and speed is needed down forward.

Hayward is a little hot and cold this season. I thought his game against the Giants was outstanding but against the Doggies he was no where to be seen.

Minimal changes for the weekend, we just need another tall to help Buddy and then we can throw Aliir back down into defence where he can find his groove again

You might be able to see the game. I was on a cruise last year and they had one of the Swans matches on the TV

I agree with this.

Except maybe a little harsh on Hayward. Hot and cold is perfectly normal for a player at his stage of development, as long as there's a 'hot' at all, I'm OK with the likes of he and Florent getting games. It's mainly good just to see what they can do at senior level, and they've both shown they're capable of matching it.

Florent offers more when he has the ball than Hayward. I'm not saying to drop him but I wouldn't be upset if he's moved to make room for another tall

Fair call. Which tall though? I wasn't impressed with McCartin or Cameron that much in the NEAFL. But it feels inevitable that we're going to have to throw one of them off the deep end and into senior footy eventually. We have two months without Reid.
