OUT: Flynn, Owies, A. Reid, Schoenberg
IN: B. Williams, Yeo, Hewett, DevRob

We cannot afford to carry as many talls as we do, especially when they don't provide more than just being high marking targets. He played well against North and had a so-and-so performance against Port that was saved by us winning and making forced changes, but Archer is clearly below the pecking order behind Shanahan and CDT, so he has to go.

EDIT: SONUVABI- I knew I forgot someone! Swapped Dewar for Dev

Is Yeo ready? If it’s listed as 1-2 with his history can’t imagine he’d back next week

errr Dev?

Six-Devon.

Bring the tackling king back, we need him 👑

OUT: Flynn, Owies, Schoenberg
IN: Williams, Johnston, Six-Devon.

Bailey as it happens actually LOVES playing the cats. Pretty sure he's played 2x career best games against them.

Schoenberg has used up whatever window we've given him in that role, happy to give Harvey J a look if not Dewar.

Others plausibly in the gun: Schoenberg does really nice things with it but doesn’t get it much. Champion wasn’t up to it tonight but we’re still a bottom ___ club so just pump games into him, if it clicks we’re on and if not the alternative is Owies so keep it going. Nobody banging down the door to take those spots away, seems unlikely.

Shocking WAFL efforts so not much to call up, not sure that Hewett is ready for a game but given his ceiling could be worth trying one of those 50-60% TOG games I’ve been hearing so much about with the fifth bench spot.

Yeo ready is surely optimistic. Obviously an instant in if cleared.

Nope. I’ve never said that, actually.

If you’d had said “Jobe looks like a natural KPD and Archer had shown nothing to say he’d be a good KPd”, yep that would be me.

Sure

Anyway, back to your fantastic input in your reply - we probably could've had a decent discussion about why you disagree with me but seems kinda pointless making the effort with you now.

I think we need to make structural changes and not just well team ones only. For me id go

IN : B.Williams, Dewar, Robertson, Cole
OUT: Flynn, Owies, Schoenberg, Brock

The structural changes id make are

  • Dewar to the wing and Davis to HF to give some defensive pressure
  • Ginbey at FB, Young at CHB and Duggan as third tall
  • McCarthy in defense forever.
  • Baker into the midfield forever. You are not needed at HB
  • A.Reids gametime to collapse as he spends much more time as backup ruck
  • Waterman to drift down back and not Shanahan
  • CDT to spend more time in the midfield. Showed more agility and defensive intent than anyone
  • Bo Allan into the midfield, forget this HB crap. Get Cole in to free him up

Team of

FB: Hough, Ginbey, Duggan
HB: McCarthy, Young, Lindsay
C: Dewar, Robertson, Duursma
HF: Davis, Waterman, Graham
FF: CDT, Shanahan, Champion
R: B.Williams, Reid, Allan
I/C: Cripps, A.Reid, Kelly, Baker, Cole

Perhaps I shouldn’t have been facetious.

I just think this board over rates Hewett, and glazes him to high heaven.

He looked pathetic in the WAFL yesterday. Barely got near it most of the day, zero defensive intent while playing as a forward, looked de conditioned and had a chip on his shoulder.

He’s barely been on the park since Xmas and looks like a guy who had an interrupted pre-season, and is well off the pace.

Would be nice to have selection pressure… but the wafl side got smacked and no one really did anything flashy.

BWill, DevRob, Hewett in
Flynn, Owies, Schoenberg out

I have no doubt he's not yet up to fitness, but I'd rather have him getting touch and building fitness in the team next week than Schoenberg. If we get some players fit or in better form to come in for him then happy for him to go back out but I'd rather roll the dice on Hewett with a 5 man bench.
