Guys, really important:
When Ken Judge was coach I heard that we had a choice of drafting Rowan Jones or Simon Black. Guess who Ken 'Netball Team Coach' Judge picks? Hmmm. We could've gotten a Brownlow or maybe even a premiership. Who else heard of this?

You're also half right eg., it was MM, but the reason the Eagles and for that matter the Dockers didn't show interest in Black is that he was considered to be too slow and too much of an outside player. In fairness to both a similar feeling about him was also held by several Clubs.

Jones had a dreadful year this season. Of those who played 10 or more games this year, he was undoubtedly the worst player at the club.

Its tough to know what to do with him because prior to this year he was very good indeed. He's never been a very talented player but has built a career by being a good mark and having a excellent work ethic.

I don't know why, but this season his lack of pace and skills were shown up in a big way.

Another season like this one and you would imagine his time may be up, as the early indications are that the younger brigade are passing him on mass.

He would need to return to his best to hold his place in the team next year.

If my recollection is correct, the stories were that the Eagles had intended drafting Black with their next pick at about 34 odd (he'd been training with us), but Brisbane got in first. We picked up Andy Williams instead. In the context of things, Jones has been a pretty serviceable #28 pick - certainly better than our picks at 12 and 13 - Crabb and Chambers.

To really put it in perspective, look at who North drafted at pick 30 - one before Black - a guy called Paul McMahon who didn't ever play a game for them

Given that even Brisbane left him to 31 shows that he wasn't really that highly thought of.

I think that one of the bonuses for next year will be Jones bouncing back.

You don't trade a player after a lean year....They come back hungrier.

Two words for all of you: DELIST HIM

No goals 2004
Hasn't got more than 18 possessions in 2004
Is pushing his luck
Thoughts???

don't think we should delist him, obviously you dont give a hack the VC's job, give him another year, if he is hopeless again trade him or delist him, but he deserves at least another year if players like Carroll get to stay continually.

Actually he got 20 posessions in both round 1 and round 20 (never let the facts get in the way of a good rant ;)).

However (statistically) 2004 was Jones's worst season since 1999. He certainly doesn't deserve delisting yet (after only one ordinary season). Similarly, to trade him at this point would be idiotic as his value would be right down

I rate Jones but he did have a poor year. He needs to improve his foot skills but he still has the best hands at the club and works extremely hard. Maybe the VC put too much pressure on him?? Got to see how he plays in the coming season before making any further judgements.

i do believe jones had a bad year but i do rate him as a player and yes he is a VC, but i still think he has something to offer in 2005
