Anyone else see the mention in one of the recent rags of a Melbourne band called "The Roys".

Doesn't seem to be any relation.

I haven't heard their music, but have seen their name in gig guides for the past few months. They've just released a CD. I read a story about them yesterday & didn't see any connection to Fitzroy. Good on them for keeping the name alive though.

Another band, which does have a Fitzroy connection, is The Fitzgerald Brothers, which includes several members, who played Reserves & Under 19's for Fitzroy. I don't know all their names, but there were a couple of Fitzgeralds amongst them.

The gay one, and his mate: Patrick Fitzgerald and Gerald Fitzpatrick? ;)
Patrick Fitzgerald is actually the real name of one of the players.Played for Fitzroy Under 19s and seconds after being recruited from Mernda.I played footy against him in the Ovens and Murray as he spent time at Wangaratta.

Rather than start a new thread, I found this old one and thought it would be fun to use it for the following :

List all Fitzroy songs that you know of. Now I don't mean "I want the girls who dance half-naked ..." or other tunes penned by numbats in the outer. I'm more interested in real songs, published tunes, that refer to the Roys in any reasonable way.

Here's a few, of varying relevance, that I can think of :

Fitzroy Football Club theme song. (duh)
VFL Park In The Dark - Coodabeen Champions. (Is about a Fitzroy win at said venue - "I saw Ironmonger do a one-handed pick-up on the wing).
Deep In Our Hearts Everybody Barracks For Fitzroy - Coodabeen Champions. (Chilling ... kind of up there with 'Fast Cars' or 'Under The Bridge')
The Ballad Of Haydn Bunton - who sings this? I haven't heard it yet. Should buy one. We can get a CD at the Fitzroy Shop (http://www.fitzroyfc.com.au for more details).
Show No Mercy - Mark Williams (was played at Princes Park during breaks).
Thunderstruck - AC/DC (as above).
No Limit - 2 Unlimited (as above and abover).

What else is there? I probably have listed all the ones I know of. Laurie Serafini sang one on that 'Footy Stars' album, can't remember what it was (Trevor Barker of Saints sang "I Can See Clearly Now" on the same album).

All help gratefully accepted!

Some more songs & poems that I've come across:

1. Ugly Dave Gray - Come on Fitzroy
2. James Manson - Power of the People
3. Mike Brady - Heart of the Lion (about Muzza)
4. Don Morrison & his band the Elmores - Fitzroy I'm Calling (Adelaide based muso Royboy)
5. Jas H. Duke - Garry Wilson. (Street poetry, published in his recently released bio)

Also several ditties from the 'olden' days. Refer to the 'First One Hundred Seasons' for details.

Ken Mansell wrote the Ballad of Haydn Bunton.

Laurie Serafini sang Hard Rock Cafe.
James Manson wrote Power Of The People, which Fitzroy used in marketing in 1994. Manson played guitar on the song & I think Brad Boyd's brother sang.
Also on the Power Of The People cassette was a song called Fitzroy Is Joy, sung by Nadine Garner with Manson's mate, Rocky on guitar.
In The Wild Colonial Boy, Jack Doolan was killed in a shootout with troopers Kelly, Davis & Fitzroy.

They had that song that 'Voice of the G' released ages ago, 'Nothing Beats Footy at the MCG' and it had a brief mention of Fitzroy:

'The Tigers farewell to the Roys'

I own a copy of the single. It's only a tiny mention but I thought I'd add it anyway!!

I bought their CD, "Holus Bolus". It's great, bluesy rock. It is worth watching the filmclip for their song, "Sexyman" too. It's also a bit "blue". ;)
I heard that they chose The Roys as their bandname, because each member of the band had an uncle named Roy.

Ha! Geeze you know a lot of stuff, FP!

His band used to play at Fitzroy gigs at the old casino in Flinders St Extension

omg that's right there used to be an interim casino in the world trade centre, was a walkway from the old yards over Flinders St to it ... they turned the yards into a big open car park and had golf buggies flitting around delivering the punters. That was when the first 'child locked in car while mum fluttered' incident happened.

Gawd memories.
