It's the rookie TheBigWarriors first game.
OldLion, BobbyB & FitzroyRamone seem to be a little underdone and sent back to the 2's. Rumours abound they are still suffering the 2004 premiership hangover.
Roylion - anything over 9 "frees against" will see you join them.
TimtheToolman - walked the walk last week - just stay away from the press.
Fred - took all my persuasion at the selection table to keep you in the 20. Need a big one otherwise you'll join Tim Rendall in the "Recruits Hall of Fame"

Good news is the Club CEO has just publicly backed me as coach.

Sure haven't got last years form so far. With missing the pre-season it might take a while to fire up too. The umps seem against my Hamill style of play too but I've been taking people out for so long now it's the only way I know.;)

SWAMPRATS SENIORS Vs ROYS SENIORS
SWAMPRATS 8 5 12 7 12 9 16 15 111
ROYS 3 1 5 2 11 7 17 8 110

Goals: FatPizza 4, Stocka 4, Flea29 3, Roylion 2, Timthe Toolman, PaulD, Fitzmantle, NoelMugavin ea 1
Best: PaulD, Flea29, FatPizza, GrimReepah, TimtheToolman, Stocka

Injuries - Fitzmantle (2 weeks - concussion)

A better performance - the sandhill training is paying off. Great effort by rookie TheBig Warrior & TheGrimReepah down back continues to impress. Flea29 went his 3rd game in a row without handballing, but found a fair bit of the ball. TimtheToolman continues to give it to the coach. Roylion with a much more disciplined game - only 8 free against, however his goal kicking suffered. Next week, bring back the mongrel & bag more goals.

At the other end of the spectrum, the reluctant coach had another shocker. SpecialBruce failed to bother the statistician (mind you another coaching blunder had him glued to the pine the entire game). Super-recruit Fred choked at the end as this transcript shows (4th quarter, 30 seconds to go & us down by the solitary point).

4 : 23.93 - A SHORT KICK TO FRED.
4 : 23.99 - FRED IS OUTMARKED BY FORD FAIRLANE.
4 : 24.06 - WITH THE BALL IS FORD FAIRLANE.
4 : 24.12 - HIS KICK IS HURRIED.
4 : 24.19 - MACCA19 GETS TOO FAR UNDER THE BALL.
4 : 24.25 - PAUL D WITH THE BALL NOW.
4 : 24.38 - HE SENDS THE BALL TO FRED.
4 : 24.44 - FRED CAN'T TAKE IT.

Think the once feared half-forward line of Fred, Fatty & Fitz might be gawn...

Cheers, Fatty L., Was very happy to see my performances in the " Seconds" were rewarded by the selectors and finally got my chance in " The Big League". Great to be out there but being a true " team man" was disappointed our big last 1/4 wasn't quite enough to get us over the line! If we put in a bit harder on the track this week, I reckon we will see the benefits in Round 4!

Don't be too hard on yourself either Fatty, I reckon you will hit back at your critics this week, and give an " Andrew Taylor like" performance at CHF! Your best isn't far away! Now that I have had a taste of the " big time" I will be trying to be cement my place in the team, but with the depth of quality players in this club, will have to perform at my best to stay there! GO THOSE MIGHTY ROYS or OUR POWERFUL PRESSURISING ROYS FOR PREMIERS....

This season is going to go down as the year of two halves, the first half being 10 quarters long, and the second half being the rest of the year.

I feel good enough about my performance to call it 'workmanlike' (as opposed to 'womanlike') and hopefully can continue setting up attacks from the back half.

Onward and upward.
