Rucci's theories

Good to see some of my suggestions are crayz afterall.

I noticed on Saturday he mentioned he had a theory in relation to TV rights. Where clubs who get the lion share of block buster games should get a small distribution of TV rights to compensate the weaker clubs.

Good idea, I may have to traul my history because I know I suggested that years ago :)

We've always thought some of your suggestions are crayz. :p

Thats a double-edged sword though, because it punishes clubs for the decisions being made by the AFL in fixturing - you can't punish clubs for decisions they don't make.

SO then you open the way for clubs to privately decide when and how their games are broadcast, and that changes the status quo considerably.

For example, I can see Collingwood keeping its current blockbusters on FTA, and then offloading their other home games against sides like Port and Freo to Foxtel (who would be happy to take any Collingwood homegames exclusively live, and would likely offer Collingwood an additional financial inducement for them to do so).

Basically you would get all the dodgy dealmaking that exists currently with Victorian clubs making individual stadium deals (that had to be corrected by the AFL after the fact to ensure that the lesser clubs didn't get smashed), but on a national level.
