Yep, I thought it was a real strength of his around 2011/2012, too - he used to wrestle and knock spilled balls on to teammates' advantage very well. I wondered whether the abortive ruckman experiment had a useful side effect.

He's been nowhere near as effective lately, though - hopefully the reports that he's carrying less weight are true, and improve his groundwork as well as mobility/leading.

Here's hoping, and whilst wildly unlikely, I'd love to see him get a nasty streak.....just a little, enough to make defenders think twice

His size... and strength... Id love to bring in some boxing in his training. He will never change his dna , but if he just did the nasty a couple times , it would let other know that its a level that is a real option. The first time someone roughs up a young team mate is when id encourage him to become less the hawk and more the Tomahawk

I think it's the lack of mobility, too. By the time he reacts to the ball changing hands and shifts his momentum around, it's already cleared the area.

Tom Hawkins is probably the worst follow up footballer I have ever seen. At least with Senior, he knew he wasn't going to win back the ball but he loved to try and take it out on the guy coming in to block him. Raised the elbows or just went as hard as he could to apply maximum damage. Wish Hawkins would run as hard as he could at the incoming shepherds. I know who would come off second best that's for sure.

Trouble is a man of Hawkins stature, all it takes is a slight mis-judgement and head contact to be made and he's spending weeks on the sidelines thinking about it.
