Re: Rucking Hell!

i dont think i have heard anyone mention this but how did we let Rix slip? he is a very good ruckman and he ripped it up down at coburg. would be handy right now.

Re: Rucking Hell!

We should be in Meesens ear about coming back to Vic via the pre-season draft. Hes young, been in the system for a 2 years so body is maturing. Looking at Adelaides depth in ruck and the way maric has come on meesen might want to look elsewhere.

Nab him and grab another in the draft proper. Ruck problem solved

ah terrry and greg are to blame for that one. they dont seem to think we need ruckmen or big strong key defenders yet alone the necesary youngsters at various stages of development to help cover when injuries happen. ffs going by millers latest comments we have enough kpp.
this bloke is in charge of the footy dept i ask gregory you twit wheres the list management.

Re: Rucking Hell!

How about we just ... oh I dunno, move to the Gold Coast :D

We'd be sure to win a Premiership within 5 years as the AFL would make sure of it.

I dont know myself, whether Im joking or not :o

i'm in!:thumbsu:

i can get a chance to work on my tan!:p

you guys could call me "Mini Terry" - Teeheeheehee.....:)

Re: Rucking Hell!

Shocking timing since lade is the best tap ruckman in the comp. We will get destroyed at clearances again.

Re: Rucking Hell!

ahh sheeeezus, please excuse my ignorance... what was I thinking

No i mean he litterally can't play. He has to be elevated from the rookie list like Howatt and King have been. However, this cannot happen unless a current player is put onto the long-term injury list like Cogs and Peterson are currently

No doubt we'll be get smashed in the clearances.

I'd like to think that they'll be planning to lose the tapouts and be waiting, but after last week nothing is assured.

I know he's not a ruck but we don't seem to get slaughtered as much when Polak rucks.

I'd also like to think that Rodan will be put under some physical pressure by his ex-teamates but wondered who was capable. (I don't hold a grudge against David but he was a wasted resource at Richmond)

Re: Rucking Hell!

Yep, Kangaroo's tried that for Hay and AFL said no.
Does anyone here feel we should of promoted Angus Graham ahead of Howat ( or was it king?) for Coughlin?
Knowing that Knobel still had ankle problem from last year and Petersen is also injured. Petersen was our tall pick in draft correct?
Also add to that Ray Hall not been fit all year either.

Coburg uses Rondalson as main ruckman, as his the best they have and he is too old for AFL, that is the problem not having your own 2nd's, you cannot 100% control who plays and where.

Re: Rucking Hell!

i believe we stuffed up in not picking up rixy. he will never be a top 2-3 ruck in the comp but will always give a contest. has done ok for st kilda and an adavantage is he can play both forward and back in defence if needed.

Now who will do that, as papers said today, we have no player who gets annoyed when we're loosing, last Richmond player I saw who had a bit of the agro in him was Turner, remember 95 Semi Final aganist Bombers,
Stafford had a bit too when he was younger. Took out Everitt in a game aganist Hawks a few years back. But it was rare.
This is the trouble non of current playing senior players get upset if their loosing ( can't expect it from the kids)
Damm Brown is being missed on a lot of areas, he hates loosing. He won't get angry, but he'll try to change things by his own actions, just never seen that from Johnston, Bowden, Richo etc.

Re: Rucking Hell!

Jake King ripped is up in coburg too. Is he AFL standard? Nup.

my point was rix has played well for the saints...do you honestly believe he would not walk straight into our 22 this week if we had of drafted him? The fact is Rix ripped it up in a position that we are weak in.

Re: Rucking Hell!

Coburg uses Rondalson as main ruckman, as his the best they have and he is too old for AFL, that is the problem not having your own 2nd's, you cannot 100% control who plays and where.

Graham gets plenty of time in the ruck for Coburg. Ronaldson got shunted out of the ruck for large parts of last season to accomodate Pattison. We have more influence on our 2nds than almost anyone else.

As for finding a ruckman it is one of the hardest thing to do. 'Buying' a guy who can play first ruck is expensive. 'Buying' a back-up is tough, no one really wants to change clubs to be understudy.

Getting another youngster doesn't help much. You need a guy who can play straight away.

My guess is that we will look for a veteran for a year or two - same way Saints took Gardiner and Swans took Everitt. Some ruckmen can keep on going and going (eg Cloke, Matt Clarke).

That would allow us to spend some draft / rookie picks on some teenagers to develop.

I think Ben Hudson might be the realistic option. If Biglands returns and the Crows want to keep both Maric and Messen - then Hudson is in trouble. Hudson at 28 can play understudy for 2-4 years. Let a new generation of ruckmen develop.

Go with Simmonds / Hudson / Pattison / First-round pick / rookie-draft pick.

Pattison at number 3 is OK - it is asking him to be first ruck that is ugly.

when we finish last we can just pick up matthew kreuzer in the ruck :thumbsu:

But then we need to wait 2-3 years for him to play more than 10 minutes a quarter and a good 5 years before we can start thinking about him being first ruck.

The problem is getting from now to 5 years with only Simmonds who can play against adults.
