Your not wrong we need ruckman. At the moment Simmonds is our no1 Ruckman.

Top 4 in order i feel should be

4 - Simmonds
3. - Graham
2- Patterson (coburg)
1- Putt (coburg)

Am i the only one that thinks Patterson is not up to it. I would rather see how Graham goes in the side weekly give him a chance. Cause as far as i can see in games as soon as Patterson goes into the ruck and simmonds off the ground thats when most sides either kick away or get back into the game. He is not up2 it I dont think.

ROFL at Jason Ball getting a game still, it was a jolly good one at that ;)

I heard they may get Barry Round back off the long-term injury list before the finals RFC, might force Ball back to the Magoos. :thumbsu:

However, where is this ruckman going to come from?

If worst comes to worst and we can't trade in a worthwhile 1st ruck RG, we'll have to go with what we have. Pattison, Graham, Polak, Cartledge, Putt further down the track - it's certainly nothing outstanding unless one of them improves out of sight, but it is reasonable depth at least (something we haven't always had).

We passed on rookie bargain ruckmen like Bellchambers in the last draft, so IMO it's probable that the coaching staff already have a succession plan in the ruck department.

Trent Knobel was the worst footballer I've ever seen.

18 month ago he had one kick while playing 1st ruck for the entire match... and fans praised him!!

In fairness to the Big Knob Top4, you are referring to the Adelaide 'Bowden's backyard' match of '06, which wasn't exactly your average game of football. ;)

Plus Simmonds got 9 hitouts, so Knobel didn't play 1st ruck for the entire match.

FWIW, Knobel won the ball for us out of the centre with hitouts to advantage at crucial times in that last quarter when we were starting to crack. The week after he only got 3 possessions, but he smashed Ottens (who had a whopping 9 possessions) and we beat Geelong at Shell Stadium.

He and Simmonds were good foils for each other. Knobel could ruck head to head with the topliners (which Simmonds has always struggled at) and Simmonds had enough mobility and ballwinning nouse to make up for Knobel's lack of it. Considering what they cost it was a masterful piece of recruiting at face value - i.e. not knowing Knobel's body would give out. You wouldn't ideally want two of either, but together they complimented each other well.

think you guys are being abit harsh on patto come in last year held the ruck all year, this year playing his heart out give the kid a couple of more seasons in the firsts wait for graham to come up then make a choice

We need to do everything in our power in this years draft, or preseason draft to get a ruckman who is at least 203 +cm, i love how Simmonds goes about it, but hes to short. If we could get sum hitouts to advantage we could be very dangerous. Whats your thoughts?

Agreed.

Patto is a trier at best and Simmons goes missing when it gets too hard.

How bad was he last week?
