Willi firsts have a bye this week, not sure about their reserves. Couple more weeks of match conditioning for Rus then we'll see.

It'll be interesting to see where he's at because he and Reid will be fighting over the same position the fast leading full forward?? Maybe drop Rocca in a couple weeks and put both in?? Thoughts

both teams have the bye this weekend

was at the game at the weekend
rus obviously presented well in the forward 50, but he also put alot of pressure on up the field which was a good sign albeit against frankston reserves.
still conscious of his shoulder and seemed to try to protect it in overhead marking contests

If Rusling goes head to head in the Willi 1s with Reid and looks better for a couple of weeks then we should consider bringing him in. As it stands I’d favour Reid ahead of Rusling given he has played all year and look to have some talent when he git a gig in the 1s.

Even before he did his shoulder the last time, he looked anxious to protect it in play. He's had so many shoulder problems now that it may take him a fair while to regain confidence, just like someone coming back from a knee reco.

i completely understand the reasons why he would be protecting his shoulder and there aren't many players in his position that wouldn't be protective, but with reid and others able to play forward i dont expect to see him play for the pies this year unless he has full confidence in that shoulder

it will be interesting next year as the competition for the tall forward position with rusling, reid and dawes all set to demand a spot by mid way through next year, rocca will be under huge pressure to get on top of his game for an entire season, with cloke well and truly safe at CHF

Yeah, agreed. I think Rusling will be interesting. Personally, on what I've seen of him, he looks like a lead-from-the-goalsquare type. Nothing he's done so far makes me think he could play up the ground. This lack of flexibility may make it difficult for him to slot into the forward-line mix while Rocca's in the side. Reid strikes me as having more strings to his bow.

I'd just be happy for Dawes to get a good season of footy behind him next year at Willy.

All Rusling does when he comes back to the team is give us that third tall fowrard. This will allow maxwell to go down back, and sure up our deffence. Like Hawthon and Thorpe, as he will be the 3 marking option, he will still get alot of the ball. We need him back badly if we are to go anywere in the finals. How much better would the forward line look like this:

Rusling Rocca Davis

Didak Cloke Thomas

Rusling and Rocca play from the squre together, as he is a mad leading player:

and Down Back

Shaw Clement Harry O

Maxwell Prestie Goldy/Shaw

Now not only do we have 3 marking oprions in the forward line but we have 4 tall deffensive players, last week maxwell would have been good for brennon would have save a few, but he was our only forward option.

Steal from peter to pay paul, wasnt going to happen

Get him in this week. Drop Rocca!

I'll take a half fit Rusling over Rocca any day. one trys the other is a dud of the highest level

Can't drop Rocca against the blues. It'll be a shootout. Thats how they play as they have no D! Rocca will play well.

Rocca's due for a big one though!

Has been since he got to the club.

At best he's a flat track bully. Look at what happened against Geelong. they put a running backman on him and he looked dumb and slow. Brisbane throw a quicker player on him and he gets shown up.
He is a dud, shouldn't be on anyones list let alone a team that will be playing finals.

And 1 hot game a year doesn't make him over due.

It all comes down to delivery from the mids. Brisbane destroyed us in the middle, every kick going forward was under pressure & gave no forward a hope. We cant expect to just kick it in randomly & expect him to get it, if we can kick to his advantage he is more than likely going to get it. If he has 2 or 3 guys dropping back because we were slow to move the ball in kick it to someone else! We need to take a leaf out of the way Brisbane has restructured their forward line.

Although Rocca's form has been a worry for some time now there should be no talk about dropping him - he is just far too important.

If we have other options up forward with Cloke, Rusling, Reid etc. then bring 'em in and play them alongside him. Even when not taking marks and kicking goals he consistently makes a contest, uses his size and strength to break packs and generally takes one or two of the oppositions better defenders.

I would like Rusling to make his way back this year, however I would want him playing next to Rocca!

It's all about work-rate
While most of teh side against Brisbanes was down, his work-rate has been down for 2 or 3 years.

Look at his form over the last 3 years.
As Cam Bruce said once, 1 hot day doesn't make a summer.
