I am getting sick and tired of continually reading about how we want to trade Russell, drop Russell etc etc. I am just wondering if people are watching the games and if they are do they know anything about it. Yes he still needs to improve: 1. His kicking for goal and 2. Putting 4 qtrs together. The kicking for goal is a confidence thing and it WILL come good soon, he has a good action and its just a mental thing;

However, if you watch some of our games this year you will see some great signs from this bloke, the tackling and lead up marking are obvious, however the most impressive thing I have seen over the last few weeks have been his quick hands. For those of you who bag him get a tape of the game last week and watch this guys hands, he opened up the play on several occasions by lightening hands. I am a fan of this guy and want him to stay at Carlton, IMO he will be a gun HFF in the coming years.

GO BLUES!!!

It's common knowledge, but the Jordy bandwagon has been closed off. Obviously, the people on the bandwagon (such as me) love him and have built a shrine to honor him. The people off the bandwagon have built a wooden version which they burn every week and then rebuild, only to burn again.

2009 will be Year of the Jordy. It's like Year of the Tiger, but 2 legs, no tail and he's awesome. No fooling.

Oh, I guess on topic. Good handballs, excellent hands. Go Jordy!

Hes getting better ( slowly )

Just watched the game against port last night ( again ) and his first half was real bad --second half was a different player amongst the best on ground for the half. Still goes missing like half our team but im starting to not want to trade him every week now hehe

Yeah he does go missing like a lot of our team I (dare I say he could be a barometer for us), but his good is very good, a few actions this year that impressed me: was his handball and big shepherd one game, running with the flight of the ball and taking a grab in another and several run down from behind tackles.

I think the term - he goes missing is purely because if you watch JR, he leads into Holes and is ignored. He provides sheppards and defensive pressure that are off camera. Ive been to every game and yes he makes errors that are no different to murphs judds waites etc. Yes his kicking for goal needs to improve - thats a confidence thing but really most of the players are just as bad in kicking in general this year. My impression the kid is young and hasnt even racked up 50 games yet, yet he wears number 2 and dare i say half of the supporters are expecting a diesel like form from the kid straight away or he was a high draft pick that should perform but didnt like Livingston. Jury is still out and I predict he will hit his straps next year.

I agree that he will be in our best 22 when the good times come, he has all the attributes of a very good player and just needs things to fall into place. They will, i just hope that we dont trade him away before than.

Jordan Russell is significantly better this year and is becoming an important player in our structure.

Most people on this board have already made up their mind on him, in the negative, so I can't be bothered arguing with these people.

I take solace in the fact that the football department apparently agrees with my viewpoint.

He has shown glimpses of good signs.

But gets lost too many times.

If he could work on his kicking (like hit a target) then he would actually be a valid member to our team and wouldn't be ridiculed every game.

PS: this thread is kind of freaking me out also

Yep. His flaws certainly symbolize the bulk of the team.

So you people think he is doing a great job coz he can handball?

F*** me I should have played AFL if thats all it is going to take to get a spot in the 22.

He only handballs because he can't kick!

Watch when we gets the ball!, watch very closely, his first instinct is to handball and not kick. No matter what the situation is whether it is the right decision or not, he will look to handaball 100% of the time.

It's just not his set shots at goal that needs work on it's his field kicking and he has no confidence to work on it in match sitiuation and will always look for the safe option.

At least Carrots has a bloody go and works on it and puts pressure on himself to try and hit a target. Same goes with Murphy, the only way you are going to learn is in a match situation, with real match pressure. Same for Waite and Scotland, yes they may turn it over but at the least they are trying to create a bit of play.

The sooner Russell takes the game on himself and has a bloody go, the sooner he will get better and have more confidence. His defensive side of his game is fine but he needs to work on his offensive game.

209 - the arrival of David Ellard into the BIG TIME

Jordan Russell can't be a Gun HFF because he does not have a creative bone in his body. He simply can't create a goal for himself let alone kick a set shot, which is something a Gun HFF should be able to do on a regular occassion. We cannot keep playing him as a forward and if he is too warrant a spot on the ground he must find another position and make it his own. In 17 games this season playing as medium sized forward he has kicked 2 goals and assisted 4 others, that simply isn't enough for somebody playing in our forward half. Compare those stats to that of an Angus Monfries who is at a simillar stage of his development and plays in a simillar position, Monfries has kicked 16 goals this season and assited on 11 others, while playing 2 less games than Russell. Monfries has created 21 more goals for himself or others this season than Russell and i certainly don't classify Monfries as a Gun HFF yet.

We cannot continue to play guys like Russell as forwards as we are struggling to get an even spread of goals throughout the side as it is, i am still hoping Russell will turn out to be a decent player for us, however i strongly believe that this won't be as a forward and he must find another spot on the ground or he is at serious risk of being dropped. As we start to get better as a side we must start to play our style of footy on our terms like Geelong and Hawthorn do, and this can't be achieved when our half forwards are concentrating more on stopping their respective opponents than they are at kicking and creating goals. I am all for forward line pressure but those forwards still have to be able to hurt the opposition on the scoreboard, something that i genuinely can't see Russell doing.

OK. So it seems JR is coming along good and maybe from the looks of things a keeper.
Well, that's all well and good. But who the hell are the punters here, on Big Footy, gonna' draw and quarter each week after one of our narrow losses? Huh? Who?

Maybe everyone will double their criticisms on Carrazzo...:o

I think then he would become the most hated and criticised AFL player around ;)

Poor guy.
