Ruth Cracknell, the grand dame of Australian Television has passed away at 76.A very sad day.

Yes, very sad news; she has been ill for some time so not really a huge surprise.

A very nice lady, one of our finest actors. Mother and Son, what a classic aussie comedy.

Just wanted to echo the sentiments of the above posters.

Mother and Son was a brilliant show. I think it's a measure of a program when young kids and grandparents can sit together and laugh just as much.

Ruth Cracknell wasn't just the woman people remember for her comic roles on TV, she was Australia's leading woman of the stage for over 40 years. With so many varied roles on both stage and screen she will be sadly missed.

The single biggest reason why Mother and Son remains easily the best, funniest, mostly sharply scripted and brilliantly acted situation comedy ever made in Australia.

Cracknell was also a giant of the stage, still working right up untill her death.

She also had a part ownership in a Sydney Art Gallery and was one of Australia's most important private collectors of art in recent times.

RIP Ruth Cracknell - terrific lady who contributed so much to the Australian TV, arts and theatre industry.

I grew up watching Mother and Son on the ABC and today it remains one of my favourite comedies.

Rest in peace! I just hope nobody accidently drops oranges when your getting burried
