Been watchin a couple of adelaides games fro last year, this kid looks good. Will he be given a crack this year? Where do you think he will play, i personally think he looks best a Full Forward

I don't think he will get many games to start off with because he is out for 3-4 weeks with stress fractures in his foot.

The only concern I have with Rutten is his lack of leg speed and agility. As far as footy smarts go he is up there and I am always amazed with is ground level skills for a bloke of his size. He is a good reader of the play and is very aware of whats happening around him.

Because he lacks a bit of pace I think his best position is FF. This could be a bit of a problem if the opposition has th eball because he probably won't be able to chase them down and tackle them but if we surround him with quick, hard chasing, strong tackling player lie Welsh, then Rutten should be fine. He has good pair of hands, eyes on the footy and is a good kick for goal. I think if Perrie doesn't fire this year, Rutten could be our FF come the end of the year.

I read in the other thread about the possibility of Hentshell holding down full-forward next year. WHo would be the front runner of him and rutten
Probably Hentschel. Hentschel is much more rated among the coaching staff so I think he will get the nod.

True, but until Rutten can find some more mobility, I'm not sure he can play anywhere else but FF.

Sad but true. Due to his lack of mobility, agility and pace he's a one trick dog at AFL level, as he can't be risked further up the ground.

It's a damn shame because he has all the other attributes such as skills, strength, footy smarts etc.

He's okay as a fill-in, but I don't think he's going to make it as a regular purely because of his lack of athletic qualities.

If we compared Rutten to the current day Carey, what are the major differences?

An ability to read the ball that still exceeds that of 99.99% of AFL players.

Guess which one has that plus the higher level of footy smarts?
