Damo reckons the Blues are into another package deal from the Giants, the most impressive so far including Griffen, Smith and Kennedy. Griffen doesn't have a discussion thread yet so I thought I'd start one.
It make sense given after Cripps got injured, the only Blues' midfielders who could run out games were Murphy and Gibbs, as Fisher, SPS, Cuningham etc. simply didn't have the tank to play four quarters of footy 22 times, so the Blues were thumped in the second half of the year to end up finishing 16th. Gibbs likely leaves for Rockliff, and Griffen comes in as an experienced head who can assist the Blues in winning games and keeping youngsters happy with victories and tutoring. It goes against the rebuild but he's a quality player likely to be available on the cheap and build the culture by winning more games and mentoring younger mids (he is an ex-captain). The Blues could do a lot worse.
Smith isn’t the only Giant on the way out of Spotless Stadium, according to Damo, with midfielder Ryan Griffen potentially heading to Carlton as well as part of a package deal including Smith and Matt Kennedy.
