Has been playing really good football this year and not getting much of a wrap. I think he has just about been our most consistant player. Did a great job on walsh. He is one who cops a bit on this board, so its good to see him playing really well. Big job on kingsley this weekend. The importance of a good 3rd tall defender cannot be underestimated.

yeah, he'll get better too. defending is mostly about experience - he would of got a lot of that playing on guys too big for him. now with grant or rawlings available to take the 2nd forward, hargreave can take a more suitable opponent.

I admit to having been frustrated with his efforts previously - however this year I have had my opinion turned around. Agree he's been much better this season. Thumbs up for Ryan HARGRAVE.

I have always thought Hargrave could be a player- but his form, confidence and decision making have been poor over the past season or so.

This year his confidence and creativity have returned and he seems to be going from strength to strength. He is becoming a key member of the team.

He is obviously responding to Eade's coaching.
I like him because he has flair and a bit of arrogance about him.

and gotta love his hit on heath black in the 2003 saints melee. biggest fines ever yet the only guy to throw a punch.

actually one thing id like to see more of is hargreave going the big punch. currently, if there is a pack marking situation, unless harris is close by, I dont have any confidence that one of our defenders will come over the top and thump the ball.

robbo used to be the other defender you could rely on to do that to... great leap for a small guy. still reckon he could slot quite comfortably into a half back flank with maybe power/smith on the other one. but I dont think eade rates robbo..

griffen and gilbee to vacate their half back possies and move to the wings.

leaves hargeave, macmahon and morris to fight it out for a back pocket (if morris isnt tagging a midfielder)

Sorry, but I have to disagree. Our defence this year has been awful. We have conceded far more points than most other teams

I thought Ryan Hargrave has been particularly disappointing, especially last week, and that he is the most likely player to miss the team for the game against Geelong.

Sorry, but i disagree with you. Our defence has not been awful, yes we have conceded the most points, but our midfield would have to take a great deal of responsibility for this. Against West Coast it was the midfielders who scored heavily. No key forward has kicked a bag on any of our defenders even against Melbourne it was Bruce and midfielders that scored heavily.

I would say these three players have been the biggest improvers in 05 Ryan, Jordan and Linsday. They have closed the gap or even in Gils case moved ahead of players such as Eagle, Hahn,Gia, Murph IMO. I just think they have taken a step up this year. Sign the three of them up now.

Remind me, which player beat Hargrave last week?

We have conceded the most points ..... but our defence has not been bad, it's the midfield's fault.

Doesn't make sense.

Has Hargrave become untouchable too?

I said our defence has not been awful. I didnt blame the midfield alone I said they shared some degree of responsibility, Westcoast had midfielders that scored heavily, Bruce scored heavily when we played Melbourne I would consider this a midfield issue, so they have contributed in someway.

Hargrave is not untouchable but IMO he has been consistant and has beaten his man, and is now learning about playing one on one and beating his man.

Yeh, Shaggy has been going along very nicely. It has taken a while for his game to mature but he hasn't exactly been in a top side with other strong defeders around him.

As far as being immune from criticism as one other has suggested, it would certainly make a pleasant change, but there are too many people on this board who get some peculiar pleasure from dragging down our players and make no reasonable allowances for age, experience or circumstances.

Beautifully put.

The above does not seem to apply to Peter Street. While I agree he makes mistakes but no-one seems to take in account he is still young and only played 33 games with limited ground time in matches.

Every one of them has made mistakes, and every one played some great games for the club but cops a hiding regularly on this board, without the uproar it causes when you question one of the "chosen few".

Some are immune, and should not be

hmmm yes

Bowden

To be fair I don't think all is lost for Bowden. He is the sort of player who looks really bad when he is uncertain. My observation is that unlike several other players who have clearly benefitted from Rocket's changes, Bowden is taking time to adjust. A week or two at Werribee where he usually dominates should be all that is needed to freshen him up and restore his confidence.

Bandy

far too early to tell with bandy. he does have the ability there, he's just gonna take time to get back into the swing of things. he has been injury ridden in seasons past. unfair to judge him after round three.

he will perform well for the bee's and would expect him to be among our best. its stepping up and handling the pressure at the top level that he is struggling with now. hopefully he can step up and be a handy player.

think back a fews years at nathan eagleton. he had the ability however seemed to make silly errors quite regularly. he was effectively on his last chance and through hard work turned around his form and is now a key contributor.

i cant see any reason why bandy cant do something similar. have faith

eagleton

I think we should keep Eagleton because he's an outstanding player. The fact that he and puck puck are good friends is a bonus.

Harro does get bagged a lot but quite a few stick up for him

He is the shizzle dizzle of the hizzle ho nizzle, assuming thats a good thing which Im not sure, but I think it is

Harro doesn't deserve the criticism he gets, and even if he did people barely ever criticise him constructively anyways. He gets the most out of himself and works hard for the club, theres not much more he can do than that. 22 is on my shortlist for a number Im gonna get on my back this year because he's one of my fave players and just to ******** the Dog fans that don't like him :)

I think we should have a Harro dedication week, where we can post non-nude pictures of the great man.

Anyone who thinks Hargrave is immune from criticism couldn't have been here during pre season when Hargrave had a thread dedicated to bashing his game after every match.I think he has lowered his colours once maybe twice including pre season games and is only now starting to get some positive encouragement off supporters.
