He will be a father-son rookie draft pre-selection to Fremantle unless another club elects to take him earlier. Lester-Smith is a very talented half-forward who showed tremendous smarts and decision-making in the WAFL this season. He kicked 43 goals in 16 senior matches before tearing the lateral meniscus in his knee in late-July.

seems smaller than the 1.89m on his profile.

It's my understanding that now he hasn't been picked up in the main draft he is ours in the rookie draft as a father/son pick. If another club wants him they will have to nominate which pick they will use ie: Egirls say they will use their 1st round rookie pick on him. We would then either match that bid with our first round pick or decide he is not worth it and let them have him. IMHO I'd be surprised if we don't get him now.
 
Guess it will depend on what Freo think will be left in the rookie draft. He is certainly ours if we want him though. Will be curious to see how highly we rate him.

Yeah it will be interesting who else we are looking at , Mitch Thorpe is the obvious name that crops up but Brady Grey seemed to come out of left field so who knows :confused:

"A club can pre-select an eligible player as a category a rookie between the pre season and rookie drafts (with players consent) provided the player had nominated for but was not selected by another club in either the national or pre season drafts. In that case, the relevant club would forfeit its last available selection in the rookie draft to take the player."

Yeah, he will cost us virtually nothing, if we want him.

Think we may have done enough for now as far as key forwards go. Maybe a key defender like Vandeleur, Sully, Bower etc. Wouldn't mind a mature aged medium defender either. Mirra, Waldhuter some we could look at. Also doubt we would've previously nominated RLS if we were not interested. Better than 50/50 IMO. Hurley to be added to the list at a later date.

I thought Chris Bond has already stated that if Josh does not get picked up by another club we will pick him.
I also understand that Josh is fine to stay in Perth if that is the only way to stay on a AFL list.

Link? I haven't read that anywhere. Also if you have just been delisted and you are hoping for a rookie spot, training with a club is a good idea.

I don't think Bond has said that.

I remember seeing that somewhere as well but it seems wierd that we would delist him and the redraft him as a rookie when he still had a year left on his contract.
