He will be in the playing 22, Round 1 - He has to perform, not be consistent around the 10-12 disposals mark. He is a weapon to have, and shows glimpses, but he needs to have great performances in time. He can have those 12 possession games, but every month, have a game where he has a 20+ disposal game.

Also, has to be effective with his disposal. He is one of the best kicks at the club, make sure he uses it.

Lonie is a bit of a tease. Has all the weapons but does not use them often enough.

However last year we had injuries and he was probably getting better opponents. In a full strength team he should be able to cause some damage.

The guy's a good player and I'm not sure he's got the full backing of his coach based on some of the comments from Mick earlier last year.

I don't think you can read too much into last year, as far as Collingwood goes, just due to the unsettled nature of the season. The comment about getting better opponents is valid

Would think there will be more room down back, as opposed to forward, for Lonie this year.

Too loose and soft to play deep in defence.
Does not get enough possessions to play midfield.
Not good enough to get a game in our forward line ahead of Rusling Tarrant Rocca Fraser T Cloke Buckley etc.

Not tall enough for key position and not quick enough for the flanks.

So where do you play him? He's got enough natural talent but can he actually find a position on the ground that suits his skill set? At the moment all he can do is play the sweeper/rebounding defender role. He needs to show more or he'll be traded at the end of the season.

I think you're on to it, he was exposed when roughed up a bit. Hasn't got a right foot but packs a lethal left when able to use it. Most opponents have worked him out and know if they line up on him all is needed is a bit of biffo and he goes quiet. Came on the scene as an unknown force and was allowed the space to unload that left rocket, unfortunately everyone has identified that as a set play of ours and they counter by shutting him down. Either by forcing him wide or blocking his left side, rendering him useless on his right. It's up to him now to take it to the next level and overcome opponents tactics by selling the dummy or give and go, follow up get it back and drive it home. He needs to anticipate the shut down, fend off, run through em, develop a physical presence ala archer and get himself back in the game. Maybe some team mates can help out with screens from time to time but they won't be able to do it all the time. Basically Ryan Lonie will decide Ryan Lonies future:rolleyes:

He's good when he's got the ball, but he just doesn't get enough of it.

I don't think we use him enough! So it's not entirely his fault that he doesn't get enough of it, he runs to the right spots, we just don't give him the f***ing footy.

Maybe now that Shane Woewodin has left, there will be no more holding the ball for 5 minutes, making sure we get on the TV for as along as we can and kicking the footy to our 'name' players i.e Buckley, Rocca & Tarrant. We may actually start to move the ball quickly!

I'm also looking forward to Lonie laying his first career tackle this year!
