A couple of months ago I flagged this. Not only was I convinced he no longer handles quality pace bowlers with any confidence I believed his powers to be clearly on the wane. Nothing he's done since in SA or the WC has convinced me he's anywhere near the Tendulkar of old.

Thoughts?

He is past it.
Amazing the amount of times over the last year or two i have seen him get bowled by a ball that has done nothing.

Not sure what his recent test form is like, but i would almost suggest its time for him to give the one day game up.

I reckon he will retire after India tour here later this year, or after the Indian summer next year.

Agree Romeo.
Certainly a shadow of his past self. I just hope he doesn't hang around the game to long so his reputation gets tarnished, such as footballers who play that 1 season too many.

Yes a la Gary Ablett sen and Lockett when he attempted the comeback. You hate to think that the young kids growing up remember them when they're well past their prime.

I worship him but he's done very little since the last WC. Injury has played a part but he's obviously been in decline. Good for the odd cameo that reminds how good he was though.

Hopefully if he comes out here he plays well. I don't want to see him being made look silly by bowlers he'd have played in his sleep 5 years ago.

Problem with cricket is players are rated so heavily on stats, unlike footy, that going on too long can really hurt perception of how good a career was. I think Sachin's test average has already dropped 3 or 4 in the last few years when everyone elses is going in the other direction.

Our bowling attack has really been exposed recently, albeit in one-dayers. Yeah, the Sachin of old would have handled our current attack with ease, but he's been on the wane since the 03/04 tour of Australia where he had a real lean patch then came up with that double ton (240-odd not out I think, his then-highest Test score).

Yeah he's done, put a fork in him.

Soft really, just like the rest of their **** team, he's only 33 or something isn't he? Ponting won't be like that at 33.

Ponting didn't play his first game at 16 either did he...i don't think he is finished, i think he can bounce back
