Come to think of it, I don't see Kosi take too many on the lead. Most of his marks seem to be the big vertical jump to take a chestmark...

How about M. Gardiner at FF?

mg at ff baddd choice. eagles grand final loss? subiaco loss to eagles earlier this yr? he got the hands to it then cant hold it which is frustrating

Yep, here's something i posted about forward structure in the other thread i think would help.

I actually think swapping Kosi and Roo for a few games wouldn't be too bad an idea. Our forward coach should tell Kosi where to lead and how to take a mark on the lead. this would make kicking to him much easier and he wouldn't need to take those massive pack marks which are low percentage. This means on a Kosi off day he'll be a lot more effective than he is now. This would take a lot of hard work however, which i don't think he's willing to do.
Well, we have to do something with him sooner or later. As I posted on another thread - we may keep him because of his height and experience but he NEEDS to be find a position and be absolutely flogged there every day over summer.
Whether it is FF, CHF, Ruck or whatever he needs to be put there and to stay there. I'd vote FF with Roo running up the field in a richo type of position. CHF/Ruck - he's too injury prone for either really.
If he's not willing to do the hard work for the coaching staff and for the good of the club well.............

i think that they should bring gardiner back but not as a forward... a relief ruckman for king.. take kosi outa the team for the week and make him prove himself for the next game

as for forward line i think they have to try something different all together maybe just to mix it up a bit try ferg (he did play well early in the year just his kicking let him down, had a real x factor about him couldve easily had 6-7goals)

but we just cant keep giving it to riewoldt not only are the opps smashing him about but his kicking for goal is something he needs to work on again (gone are the days he would kick it 9/10 times)

My heart says bring the big fella back... And Hamill, brain says no.

I want to see Big Mac in, even just for the experience. He can't be any worse than Kosi at FF and he can actually kick the ball pretty straight.

I would have Kos, Kingy and Kosi in, one on the bench at all times and the other at FF. Hate to lose the option of having a runner, but if someone went down Roo to a wing and Kosi/Macca at CHF. Would really stretch defences and could be a wildcard.

X will get better too.

Sidenote, saw Jack Stevens on the way out Sunday... Can't wait to see this kid in the side next year.

After saturday I'm thinking that our plans for a foward line based on a superior tall marking foward is maybe a bit outdated in terms of football evolution. Geelong's "rolling maul" as it has been described, the way they moved the ball running foward through centre half foward to and through 50 "splitting the pidgeons" creating such pressure on our backman who didn't know whether the running player was going to have a shot or pass on to one of the cats fowards leading in all directions. This kind of foward entry doesn't require a single power foward but a number of skilled mid-sized players capable of marking and kicking straight plus a couple of good crumbers which we have in Milne and Schneider. The power foward in this case - Roo - is as much a decoy drawing the best two backs away from the contest then he is the traditional leading foward.

Obviously this strategy requires as much from the mid-fields ability to bring the ball quickly and fluidly to the 50 metre mark. Often our foward plays fail because the ball slowly enters 50 and is kicked to a tall foward with 2 opponents.

I thought this strategy and ability of the cats was really interesting and effective. It shows there are other options to the dependence on the tall marking full foward and with a more even and balanced foward structure and a team capable of playing evenly to these say 4 targets you'd leave the oppostion guessing a bit.

Probably a bit late to implement it now though and if the mid-fielders aren't winning the clearances then there's little chance of pulling it off.

Absolutely. But we are short of potential midfield/small forward goal kickers.
Poor kicks - Lenny, Raph, X, Jones, Mc Qualter?, Harvey.
Would be good if we could convince Joey and DalSanto to push forward a bit more.
Better kicks - Ball ( improving with his groin ), King, Gwilt, Birss, Fiora, C Gardner
But none of them have been excellent and four are fringe selections.
Our best kickers seem to be in the back line.
Fisher, Gram, Goddard.

Potential for the future, Armitage, Steven , Allen, Macca. ( Eddy? )
