Bizzaro !!!!!!!!!

It was like the world turned upside down for that game.

Higgo's drop punt in the last was text book perfect.

Alternative universe !!!!

LOL.
Man, I loved how Higgo just took off when he won the 50m penalty and rammed the goal home.

It just helped keep the intensity and the vibe up of the fightback. Underrated moment in the game.

Full respect to Trent Rivers being the only Melbourne player being bothered to chase Higgo.

No wonder he was arguably their best player on the day.

It's still absolutely crazy that the Dees lost it. It would have been harder to lose it than win it.
Watching the last quarter again the dees were so so so bad.

We talk about the missed shots (if Oliver had a left foot they almost certainly win by a point) but theres way more.

McVies 50m penalty to Higgo is unforgiveable, genunely.

McDonald plays on from an intercept mark is as boneheaded as it comes.

No ability at all from them to slow the stoppage game to a crawl even with an absolutely dominant ruck (they do it for about 90 seconds before Nas first goal but Collingwood would have done it for 5 minutes and way way earlier).

Then the last free kick debacle. I can understand the confusion and some of the game theory stuff being a mess because its such a crazy and unprecedented situation but to even give away a 6-6-6 in that scenario is unforgiveable (i assume it was Pickett coming back on the ground that caused them to cook their midfield set up) and then for their backs to just leave 80m of space (again if May or Lever play no way that happens) and THEN to just let Nas (and Camma for the record) run completely unchecked or with anyone even near them.

All really really ****ing bad.

We talked earlier in the season about how Saints fans are losing the will to get to games when the footy is so this and that...

Hopefully this last quarter of footy changes a few minds. We'll probably never see anything quite like that again, but the fact that now and then, the Saints will pull something like that or Rd 14, 2009 or that Lions game in 2004 out of their arse...

It's why you watch footy, despite the disappointment and all the bull. Its why you brave the traffic and the organisation to drag your yawning kids to night games, even though you know it's a life sentence for them and they'd be happier watching shorts on YouTube, or convince your long suffering partner to go to matches with you even though there couldn't be many things that are less romantic. Its why you waste your entire life on Internet forums arguing with people you'll never meet, why you put up with colleagues and acquaintances taking the piss after another year of failure, why you dream of big dumb blokes kicking a bit of leather around a park, its why you can't concentrate on work or organise your life, why you watch unfunny videos the club posts, why you listen to commentators so loud and dumb you feel like they are actually making you stupid...

I watched the game on my phone, then I watched it again on replay. Then I watched the stirring montage 360 did with multiple slow motion angles, commentaries and heroic soundtracks, but still...

Oh, what I wouldn't give to have been at Marvel stadium to witness that moment live. That's what the song is all about:

Oh, when the Saints go marching in:

How I want to be with St Kilda

When the Saints go marching in.

How I want to be at Marvel when the Saints put something like that together. To be in that crowd, feeling that emotion. That's worth a cold lonely train trip late on Sunday night

Who cares if it's just 4 points, who cares if it's just the pant-shitting specialists from Demonland, who cares if the first 3 quarters we played footy that would have embarrassed a VFL side...

That is the magic of footy, the reason we all love it.

I'm going to show that 360 montage to my kids and see if it inspires them; they haven't really got the footy bug yet. If this doesn’t get them into it, I'll know there's no hope!

If you love this club, if you are able to get to games, don't let it pass you by, you never know when it might be the last chance you get.

Love this club! Vive les Saints!
This game showed why you go every week if you possibly can, because you just never know. There was a game against the Eagles a few years ago where I was tossing whether to go or not, I went. Late in the third quarter we were down by five goals and I was tossing up whether to go at 3/4 time or not, I stayed.
I think we kicked the last ten goals. It was an amazing experience.

Max King breakout game i reckon. Early in 2021, i remember that

22,570 people were at the game, in 20 years time there will be 50,000 people saying they were there that day.

The kind of game that will be remembered forever.
Spot on there jwikked.

It's a bit like the old Animal Enclosure at Moorabbin.

Everyone says they stood in that section.

It was always a mystery how that small section could fit 10,000 people in every home game.

LOL.

Re watched that last quarter.

Mason Wood was huge, in all honesty if I was giving votes for the quarter I would go Wood 1, NWM 2 & Hall 3. Not taking away from NWM's last minute heroics, he is our first star in a while.

And we should not shy away from the star narrative, NWM = bums on seats, more prime time games and we'll get a lot more of that Daicos = good, Windhager = devil type of favourable press, with a star in our midst.

Can we sign him up please?

I had Hall best on in the last, he has a hand either through clearance or direct assist in 6 of the 9 goals we kick i think.

Wood and Nas next. Those 3 were monumental.

genuine question, does anyone stand the mark when he does this? i have seen other clubs using cardboard cutouts

no good slotting them from 50m unless you can replicate the fatigue while having to kick over someone's head
A very good question there TR.

Now you mention it,I can't recall goal kicking drills having another player standing the mark.

What I can tell you is that several weeks ago I was down Moorabbin way and dropped into Rsea for a quick sqizz and coffee.

It wasn't a scheduled training day and only all the forwards were out on the track.

What was interesting was that 5 long lines were marked out going into goals from different parts of the arc....at the end of each line furthest from the goals was a tall stick with a large round circle on the top.

I can only assume that was meant to be "someone standing on the mark"

Ala the cardbaord cut outs you mentioned above.

Clark, Higgo, Ro, Sharman & Windy were handy too.
Even Hastie had a real crack.
100% when you have a quarter like that most blokes will contribute.

Stocker was the only player i could think of that didnt contribute and had a few bad moments (and even then he had one beautiful front and square handball in traffic).

Wha

Just like a good wood should

Was an awesome call on fox

Couldn't agree more with your sentiments

I had to go back and make sure it was actually a 50 due to that. Good awareness by Rivers but ultimately you cant run down a player taking a 50 meter penalty in that situation as the 50 "mark" is the goal line.

Went back to see the Tauru mark and goal (they didn’t show the mark on the Fox Mini!) and the swap with Caminiti was made just after the halfway mark of the 2nd quarter.

Tauru gave away that goal with the grubber kick across goal and you saw Ross on the phone immediately and a minute or so later Caminiti was seen deep in defence for the first time, and then Tauru was shown on the bench talking to Ross a couple of minutes later, and when he came back on, he went forward, and almost immediately kicked that goal.

Will be interesting to see where they line up this week.

If North have both Larkey and Comben forward we might even consider Cordy.

Releasing Windy from Pickett also helped the midfield.

He's becoming a more dangerous mid by the week.
One of the best aspects of Hall doing so well on the ball that quarter was that to start with at least, he was on Pickett in there. For at least the first couple of centre bounces. Windy did end up back him again soon after though.

Apparently Pickett spent 8 minutes on the bench in that last 10 minutes, only managing to come back on after Nas’s first goal, so he spent 8 of the last 9 minutes on the pine.

Another of Melbourne’s brain farts!

Howard should come off the injury list this week. Just a question if we bring him straight back in.

Those first three quarters were abominable. Worst we’ve played all year. I think the boys took the last into their own hands and showed us and the coaching staff what they’re capable of.

It's actually impressive how many mistakes they made in 30 minutes.
