Saturday nights game vs the Crows is going to be another big test for the club. As others have mentioned hopefully they got a level of confidence and belief out of the Port win. Hopefully the week in Adelaide for the majority works for the group and they can get up after the 6 day break.

You would think Howard will have to be considered to manage Tilthorpe and help with the other Crow tall forwards. Stocker should also be in consideration after the concussion protocols. Who you leave out is the question - Mason Wood is one they would have to look at, his form has been down. Brad Hill won a bit of the footy but I hate seeing him being used across the half back line, he is just so poor defensively.

I thought Port intimidated a few of our players with their aggression particularly in the 3rd, plus we cant expect to win too many games conceding 60 inside 50's to our 39. The Crows have a far superior forward line to Port, so we need a huge lift with our defensive pressure to assist our defence. Port opened us up with their use of the centre corridor and link up run from defence, Lyon needs to find a way to shut that down.

We will have to be at absolute best to win this one!

Didn't love the Port game but it sure helps the psyche coming off a win. This feels like a bit of a free hit now, but a win could really get some momentum going after a frustrating start.

Wouldn't mind going in with an unchanged lineup and try to replicate that first quarter for longer. Maybe Howard in to take Thilthorpe but I can't recall that matchup going very well in the past. I think Silvagni could do as good a job if not better. Wilkie to Tex Walker, they've had some good battles.

Maybe some of our boys can invite Darcy Fogarty out for 18 holes of gold so he stays injured.

What round is it? What date is it?

If you’re going to post the topic, at least be consistent with the title - so it matches everything else.

This is why George was such a good mod here. He’d have the thread title the same every week, including autopsy threads.

Now we’re stuck with “saints v whoever” nonsense

Sounds like we’ve got a volunteer for match preview thread duty!

Ins and outs might depend on the weather. Howard comes in to manage their talls and possibly Stocker to add some hardness. Stats alone can be deceiving but the outputs from our forwards has been very low. Based on previous body work and for reasons of structure Higgo and Sharman are safe but both need to lift, as does Marshall. Ryan has a point of difference so he is also safe. Butler and Wood probably in peril but Butler at least laid 7 tackles and looked more involved. Think Wood will be a “managed” for this week. Nobody else really jumps out as deserving to be omitted.

This Saturday will be a real opportunity to show whether we have the capacity to make something of this season. The Crows have been good despite their record, and have historically embarrassed us at AO (the only place we play them apparently lol).

Like many of us, I think the win against Port was slightly soured due to getting out to a 31-point lead and nearly giving it up. However, when you factor in the conditions, location and midfield quality we came up against, it was a good away win.

There were some promising performances from blokes who have been down in recent weeks, but we can't afford to get bullied in by the Crows' midfield. If we do, then it will another 62 to 134 type score line.

The weather is looking great for the match, so there should be no excuses. At 2-3, we have the potential to get our season back on track but we need a statement win against the odds... the Crows at AO is as good as it gets.

Wouldn't want to give up seven goals in the first quarter like round one last year. Let's see if we are a serious footy team.

Potential ins: Macrae, Stocker, Howard, Henry.

I think Henry will play VFL.

Macrae could take Boxshall’s spot; however, Boxshall had a role on the weekend, so it will depend on how they rated his performance.

Howard to take Thilthorpe, unless they think Silvagni can take him — there’s a 6cm difference. -Fogarty is still TBC so they have Tex at 192 & Thilthrope at 201cm (I'd like us to back Silvagni)

Henry VFL, I suspect, unless he is flying at training.

Stocker could come in for Tauru or Carroll; however, Carroll is a bit quicker & 18 on the weekend, Tauru provides a lot of flexibility, as he can play forward and back. I think Stocker is unlucky, as I believe they want a settled backline.

Will be interesting at selection, think we got it right last week leaving Howard out. - Thilthorpe much better than Whitlock though.

Also good to see there will be selection pressure over the next month we will have the following available to come into this current side:

King..
Henry
Byrnes
Macrae
Stocker
Caminiti

Thoughts on who will come in if any?

Feel like it will be very similar lineup. Box to Rachele and Hugo to Dawson?

Feel like we’ve still got bit of work to do in terms of finding our best midfield mix. IMO, 16.2 CBAs for Flanders per game is too much - needs to be a more even split with Windy who’s going at 7.8 a game, noting we still need to find both Pou and Hall midfield minutes.

I thought we showed the blueprint last game in terms of mix for Nas, with predominately midfield, then to half back, and finally resting forward.

Need to tidy up transition from back half dramatically.

If anything, has to be the other way around.

Dawson would destroy Hugo in the air, while Box has some height about him.

You can't lockdown on too many players - then you don't go win your own footy enough.

I would lockdown on Rankine and then have players H2H on Rachele, Dawson - who must be able to go with them when they both push forward.

This is a really out there suggestion - but maybe Mason Wood is the right fit to take Dawson in that scenario? He has been struggling to play freely on the wing. Probably won't happen but I don't mind it.

What should it read and why does a thread title have to comply with your expectations?

I would swap the tags Box to Dawson and Hugo to Rachelle only when playing through the mids. I think Rachelle might be a bt too agile and quick for Box. The other point is we dont want to become too defensive in our centre movement, although Sweet probably had the better of DeKoning last week. We should be able to dominate the rucks again this week.

I think we found that out against Port we needed to put more work into there back flankers Evans and Byrne-Jones. The Crows have Worrell, Laird and even Milera who tend to create there drive from defence we need to shut that down or at least limit their damage.

Maybe just go back and look at last week’s game Preview on the dark blue Banner.
It’s hardly a train smash the way you’ve done it, but the uniformity is good and it just makes it stand out and easier to find.
Should be easy to alter.

Depends on what the likes of Macrae and Henry show on the track this week

Whilst all did something of note in the rain and wind, I thought there were some disappointing performances past just a couple of impacts

Hall is one of those

Wood is another

Higgins did not hit the scoreboard, which is rare

Stocker I would not have as automatic and neither Carroll

So there are some we need to see more impact from - noting those who will be putting pressure on as they recover from injury

The “small defender” role is open - and may even fall to Sinclair if there is the requirement

Cheif assured us all that the new moderators would be handling that, and laughed at my belief that it wouldn’t be handled consistently.
All jokes aside I’m with you! I did the thread last week and when I see it need doing.

Chief handled that whole situation very poorly and I had plenty of my posts removed for their dissenting nature at the time.

I’ve also pointed out, as have many, that the new mods aren’t super on top of previews/Autopsy’s. If they’re reading this please take note that this is still an ongoing complaint.

But at least someone took the initiative to start the thread, we’ll get there with the formatting, I just think your initial post was a tad harsh given they weren’t a mod, but I get the frustration.

Anyway, I think we’ll win this week.

The win + growing cohesion + imminent return of injured players in the coming weeks + a week away together = could see a big jump in performance if things click.

Adelaide are a good outfit, clearly the favourites, but I have my suspicions we may get up.

The potential reward of a win here is enormous. Been a slog of a start to the season but to get to 3-3 would be an incredible outcome and something to really build on.

Having said that, this feels like a game we lose every time over the past decade. If we win this, it will be a serious sign of improvement.

The Crows are obviously a good side. Fogarty is a big out for them, Thilthorpe clearly could trouble us and it will be interesting to see if we bring Dougal back for him.

Their midfield is interesting. Dawson a gun, Rachele seems to be going ok in there too. It's not elite though and they could be vulnerable there, especially with their lanky young ruckman.

A lot will have to go right but I think we're a sneaky chance. Really excited for the game.
